For those new to Aldens, it's worth noting that some of the best make-ups are the regular offerings in black and color 8. This thread is heavily skewed towards exotic shell colors and boots, but the more I buy, the more I appreciate models like the 563/664, 684/6845, 2210/2211, 9015/9016, 975/9751, 990/9901, etc. My opinion only, but one shared by many of my fellow collectors.

I'm a fan of Carmina and Alden. Certainly quite different. Can't say I think there is a wide qualitative gap but I do like Alden's finishing even as I recognize part of it is PLASTIC.

Carmina's shell is just fine.

This example is plenty shiny.

I don't find it any different, other than that one has acrylic and one doesn't.  I also have Rancourt shell, which is also just fine.

It has been :deadhorse: many times before, but it is generally accepted that while they are different, one is not necessarily better than the other.  Matter of preference.  I like it all.  I happen to like shoes in general, not just Alden.

I rather think we are on exactly the same page here - am I wrong?

We are on exactly the same page - you are correct.  I never thought otherwise.

I'm not sure I would get much use of these Carmina Jumpers but they sure are purrrrty. Congrats on them!

You can also count me as another one that enjoys all shoes. I have blasphemous brands like "Converse and Vans even a pair of Ugg's" still that are staples in my wardrobe.

Carmina makes a fine shell shoe.  Their lasts aren't for me.  Based on what I've read in different threads throughout SF (not here), people have complained about carmina shell being overly dry.  I didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers.  While Alden has had its issues with QC, I've never read about issues of dry shell (maybe bc it has "plastic" to protect it).

If you look back to the original post I replied to, all I was saying was that shell from the different manufacturers are not all the same, as the original poster intimated.

I hope we are also on the same page...

I don't expect anyone in this thread to agree, but I think they look pretty good.  And, once they're discounted (as they inevitably will be), they'll be a decent value for a Goodyear-welted boot IMO.  It will be interesting to see how well they sell.

This make-up is identical to one offered by Alden NYC, Leffot, and others except that the J.Cre make-up pictured here uses brass speedhooks whereas the ones I mentioned used brown speedhooks. I have the Alden NYC version and if I had a choice, I would choose the brass. This is a great looking make-up and it is very comfortable.
