The highest end denim I've tried:

1) Royal Japan Blues from Selfedge - awesome crunchy denim with great construction. Favorites without a doubt.

2) Iron Heart straight leg 21 oz. - loved these but had to sell as I bought too large a size in the final analysis.

After that:

Have several RRL with the Japanese denim. Big fan of these but only bought them on sale.

Also starting to really appreciate Epaulet's denim. Excellent value but I do wish they'd move on a fuller cut model already.

Thank you my friend. I have not 100 % decided if I should grab cigar chukka... Do I need both chukka and LWB in cigar or should I just settle for LWB.

#8 Chukkas just before sunset.

Tommy, did you just put them on or have you been walking like a penguin all day? Hard to beat the classic #8 Chukka. That was my second Alden. Hard to beat the Chukka in terms of exhibiting shell!

True on both counts.  Ralph hates window shoppers.  I think they get a lot of people that try on shoes there and then buy them from places like Alden SF that offer free shipping and no tax.

Haha, no penguin walk, I just put them on for the selfie, more or less, and to have a drink on the deck. Have been in sandals most of the day, too hot for shoes. And I haven't worn the chukkas that much before, only a couple of days at the office.

It seems to have lost the structural integrity all the way through the lining. Is it something I should worry about?

It's not at all at the flex point, but I am concerned I might end up with a tear down the road. Any thoughts?

It sounds like this is so minor it took you one month to notice.  You were right not to notice.  This looks fine to me.  I don't think there is any any integrity problem.  Enjoy them.

Beebs, no clue how I missed this post. Amazing collection my friend. I know you have a lot of amazingly rare footwear. :-)

Blue in Green is my favorite denim shop. I like Self Edge as well. Blue Owl is a fantastic online shop, not sure if they have a storefront.

My strike golds are easily my favorite pair (indigo/mud dyed brown weft, 17 oz).

PBJ makes a sweet denim. Same with Flat Head and Momotaro. Lots of good brands honestly.

Guiltily contributing to the thread hijack and this is a sincere question:  what is the benefit of buying expensive jeans?  What do they offer for the significant marginal additional price over Levis?  And are the benefits true for the not-so-slim like me (42-44 waist depending upon fit)?   If I were inclined to hit the world of high end jeans, are their brands available to me, or is this world only for the slim and small-butted?

Natty CXL Indy's on Commando. Any stockists have these?

Personally I love RRL low straight as well, straight leg fit without being too slim, also a bunch of good washes.

Check out eBay for them, usually $100-150.

Check out the 3sixteen SL series if you like a slim straight. Great denim and extremely comfortable from the start. Can be a bit tougher to get deep fades though if that's your thing (it's not mine but is for a lot of guys)

I got mine from Epaulet. Leffot also had it some time ago.

How do you like them? Debating them as my winter beaters.
