Crockett & Jones, Edward Green, Tricker's and probably other English companies make women's shoes.
Of course they all look like men's shoes in women's sizes.

I seem to recall Alden offered women's size in some models, like LHS, too.

Right — I remember my search did come up with others, but I thought Carmina had a nice feminine touch for shoes with traditional roots.  And, sorry to hijack — I go nowhere else where I can share such things.

My Whiskey PTB arrived from Alden SF and I did not bother trying them on.  As you can see in the photo...there's a large rectangle area on the right right shoe that's darker than the rest of the shoe.  As Ron White said:  You can't fix stupid!

They are going back

See Ya,

Steve

That is unbelievably prominent.  How the heck did that make it through QC, unless there is no QC...

Sorry, Steve. I was really pulling for you to get the perfect shade whiskey. Hopefully they get replaced fairly quickly.

Actually I like the shade of this whiskey...it's pretty true to the whiskey color.  If you hold the shoe at the right angle you can't see the darker area.  When they arrived Friday afternoon I quickly looked at them and did not see the dark area.  Today I looked again and said "Aw Crap"

This will be the 1st pair I've returned due to defects.  However the question thats already been asked is how did this make it out of QC?

See Ya,

Steve

My wife tried these on. They are ultra narrow. They have had this stock for quite some time now.

^ this thread sure could use some female companionship with a woman wearing aldens. Perhaps we could call her aunt?

Wow those look dark. Very nice... but almost black. Any chance you could take a photo outside in direct sunlight?

Four ways in which AE competes favorably with Alden -

(1) Leaving Dalton aside, at least four AE models are as good as if not better than their Alden counterparts:

Strand medallion cap toe

MacNeil LWB

Leeds PTB

Dundee chukka

(2) All can be individually MTO’d through SF without upcharge in three different colors of Horween shell (as well as a basically infinite array of soles, edge colors, welts, etc.), and turnaround is generally a month or less.

(3) Seconds are pretty easy to obtain and have gone as low as $299 recently.

(4) AE’s customer service is as good as I have encountered in ANY context, not just shoes.

1. I own or have owned all AE models above. I own all Alden counterparts. I agree with you as to the Strand. I give Alden the nod for the others by a wide margin.
2. AE's MTO policy is great.
3. I typically don't buy seconds, but some good deals can be had.
4. AE's CS is great.

I concede completely that (1) is a matter of personal preference, but:

* I don't know how to put this in shoemaker-type terms, but Alden's PTBs are more like "derbies" to me (in that they don't come up very high on the ankle), while the Leeds looks and feels more like what I consider a "Platonic" blucher to look and feel like.

* Same basically with the MacNeil, as compared to the Alden LWB.

* On the chukkas, three eyelets are better than two.

I also concede completely that the Alden fit and finish is superior to the AE.  But for the above-mentioned, I would probably choose Aldens too.
