And they aren't. Even your amazing Daltons and Fifth Streets. I wear a pair of black Leeds now, but the 9901 is so much better than my Leeds - I just can't justify the 9901...yet.

Also, reading posts with a bit of irreverence would go a long way for your health - we're talking about stupidly expensive shoes here, and the reference to "juggernauts" should also lead you to an excellent spoof video on Youtube.

And Alden bals - on the hampton, tremont and plaza lasts - are better looking than the 5 last for sure. Fit is idiosyncratic to one's foot, so I'd prefer not going there.

Never said AE were the be all end all, but clearly I have more experience with AE than I do Alden, so when I throw out examples of what I have and what I like it's to tie conetext to my post since I clearly was looking for purchasing advise for another boot. If you think AE doesn't compare to Alden, good for you, but it was an unnecessary and inflammatory post that didn't add to the discusssion . If you're annoyed that I stated that I owned and liked a AE Dalton's simply move on. We're all entitle to our opinions, but I didn't come over here to piss on Alden's cornflakes. Certain Alden's I enjoy very much. Certain AE's I enjoy as well; balmorals in particular where I believe Alden struggles.

This is not a zero sum game.

Easy there Buddy. Nothing wrong with critiquing the Dalton especially after you brought it up here, as a stronger wingtip boot than Alden (Kirkwood, right?). Many of us here frequently critique Alden make ups also no holds barred. Roguls has every right to respond. Some or maybe most would agree that he could turn down the tone. I am one to agree.

Buddy made some valid points, with that said it is an alden thread some blow back had to be expected.

@thebeebs my friend, you are on fire today... First women with low-self esteem and last but not least, Mac's shiny sockless loafers with shorts! biggrin.gif lol... Quite entertaining.

Huh? In 6 eyelet I already said no. 2 eyelet is a stock Alden model that any retailer can pull

Haha, re-reading my question, it definitely wasn't clear. Thanks for your answer, though. Didn't realize the 2-eyelet was a stock model. The 6 eyelet is much more attractive for some reason, but I think snuff is one of the nicest colors for chukkahs.

is it the style or the cost?

I never made the critique your asserting. Did I state that I was a fan of my Dalton's? Yes.

I did state I was interested in Unionmade's Kirkwood cap toe make-up but it was unavailable in my size.

Attractiveness is, to me, the #2 reason for preferring the 6 eyelet chukka.  Functionality is #1, with the lacing on the 2 eyelet model being a bit inadequate to provide support and lacing "range," esp on heavier shell models.  Would be nice if Alden made more 6 eyelet offerings.

Do you mean snuff suede?  I am not familiar with Alden offering tobacco suede.  If you mean snuff suede, Alden NYC carries that boot with red brick sole and Alden SF has it with a different sole, I think the cork sole used on the standard Indy boots.

Good luck to the guy if he thinks he can get $798 for those, given that Alden SF is selling them new for less than that (although to be sure they don't appear to have that size at the moment).  Meanwhile, my king shell cap toe boots molder away over on B&S despite my extremely attractive listing price . . . .

Strand medallion cap toe

Leeds PTB

Dundee chukka

(2) All can be individually MTO’d through SF without upcharge in three different colors of Horween shell (as well as a basically infinite array of soles, edge colors, welts, etc.), and turnaround is generally a month or less.

(3) Seconds are pretty easy to obtain and have gone as low as $299 recently.

(4) AE’s customer service is as good as I have encountered in ANY context, not just shoes.

1. I own or have owned all AE models above. I own all Alden counterparts. I agree with you as to the Strand. I give Alden the nod for the others by a wide margin.
2. AE's MTO policy is great.
3. I typically don't buy seconds, but some good deals can be had.
4. AE's CS is great.
