Interesting...on second look, I guess those could be Trubalance. The photo angle and tight laces make it look pretty sleek.

As a friend of mine once said, "Eager beats pretty."  :D

Expanding on this analogy:

AE should be worn around the house. Alden should be taken out, wined and dined.

I have both the Dalton in walnut shell and the barrie wingtip boot.  The two are very different animals.  You are correct in that the Dalton is sleeker, but that's not what the barrie last is intended to be.  The leather soles are the exact same (JR), although the Kirkwood is on commando.  As for quality, I can not in anyway agree with you.  as for AE burgundy shell versus Alden color 8, I can not comment as AE's burgundy is really inconsistent in color/shade and finish (much more so than Alden).  YOu may have come acrss a great shade of burgundy.  While I like my Dalton (I like that they feel much lighter on my feet), it looks like a cheaper version of a wingtip boot... awkward-looking cut for the perf-wing-tip (vamp looks expansive) and eyelets look cheap. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I still think it's a nice boot, but when I finally acquire a ravello wingtip boot on barrie later this year, I'm afraid I will not reach for this poor soul anymore.
Nice boots and penny's RTP. Watching "The Open" before I tee it up this afternoon. What do you think, Ricky or Rory?

And what place does the lesser-attractive, lacking-in-self-esteem, cheaper, always-wanting-to-please woman have in your life??

... I believe my sizes have been slightly off also.  Will likely go with the color 8 NST when I return home.  Afterward I visited Unionmade.  Thank you Brandon for the friendly conversation.  He told me that Alden had attempted o source shell cordovan from another source (not Horween), it didn't meet their standards.  Has anyone mentioned this recently?  I really like the Unionmade Wingtip boot (color 8/commando), unfortunately though, nothing in my size.

She is always there where you need her cooks like a champ and laughs at your jokes.(also supports shoe habit).

Those look great Alcibiades. Definitely worthy of Leffot's posting.

Leeds PTB

Dundee chukka

(2) All can be individually MTO’d through SF without upcharge in three different colors of Horween shell (as well as a basically infinite array of soles, edge colors, welts, etc.), and turnaround is generally a month or less.

(3) Seconds are pretty easy to obtain and have gone as low as $299 recently.

(4) AE’s customer service is as good as I have encountered in ANY context, not just shoes.

Haven't posted much this summer as I've been I Europe for the past month, just getting some free time to burn here and there, my two cents...

I have mostly Alden footwear, but do have a number of AEs that I quite like. My favorite?

I own a chocolate pair of AE Seven Mondavio's that are fantastic. Despite all my Alden's and having four pairs with me in Europe, the shoe I go to the most, the Strandmok in tan suede. I also like my black Rutledge that I picked up at the outlet store.

For shell, it's Alden - for calf, I'm not likely to buy Alden shoes....

Cheers,
BN
