BNelson Shoes and owner Nick get quite alot of mention on this thread, and it is deserved. I have had some back and forth with him lately inquiring of Dainite and Commando soles.

So ...............

PSA:
For a leather to Dainite sole job, the cost, I am told, is:
"It's $155.00 to convert w/a single sole.
Add $30.00 for a double sole."

For a leather to "commando" sole job, the cost, I am told, is:
"Convert w/a single sole $155.00
With a mid-sole add $30.00"

And BNelson's commando version is found here:

Nick did not ask me to do this, but I figure it will save you, and him, some time on the phone/email.

Uncle, Thank you.

Does anyone have experience buying multiple sizes for the same model shoe tree? (Woodlore, Jos. A, Allen Edmonds, Alden). I take a medium, but am wondering how much bigger a large is?

Is it a big difference? or a small difference?

The Mediums seem like they could stand to be bigger, but not drastically.

Thanks.

Like other folks, I discovered Aldens after picking up some Indy Chromexcel boots. Now I am in the market for some cordovan shoes to go with a dark navy suit.

So far I have my eye on some commando sole offerings from AoC. I am looking at the commando sole versions because I live in the Sierra mountains and deal with 5+ months of snow year.

So…. if you were to pick just one, LWB version

-or-

"regular" wing tip?

Which one to get?!?!

i have smalls and mediums in woodlore epic. a medium is TIGHT. i'm a UK 7. Alden 7.5/Plaza 8. i tend to put the mediums in when the creases get really bad, brush them, and it tends to really let the creases be brushed out when they are stretched in like that. i am not sure if it's good or bad or insignificant. i don't struggle to fit the mediums, but they are definitely tight.

Yes.

Over the years I have had various trees in various sizes:

AE split toe - medium and large
AE full toe/JosABank full toe (same thing) - medium and large
Alden and BB (which are both split-toe and are substantially similar) - medium and large

So now, unless I have lasted shoe trees for some of my English shoes, I use almost exclusively:

AE full toe/JosABank full toe - medium
Alden and BB - large

All of my shoes would fall within the following US sizes: 9, 9.5, or 10.

I am one who generally prefers my trees to fill the entire toe box. Some don't really care about that, which is fine with me.

Thanks Seven,

This is very helpful. Fully answers my question.

I will order large.

Quiet Rant:

Gents, please forgo the purchase of a half a pair of Aldens and get yourselves a proper digital camera. Shoot without flash. Perhaps visit Tumblr for some visual cues. I'm being a ***** here, but much of the photos here are...unflattering to your most excellent footwear.
