Yours are actually too small? Mine are almost too roomy compared to other plaza models. Thankfully, they crease perfectly. I've had some larger shell shoes where the creases can be torture (especially on the pinky toe before the cap).

I don't think it's an issue of being too small, but rather the shape of the last.  The widest part of my foot sits in the widest part of the shoe and the heel is perfect.  It's the way the toe box slopes in that hits my pinkie.  They felt perfect in the store, but after a day of wearing my toe is a little sore.

I could make them work if I really wanted to, but I just can't stomach paying that much for a pair of shoes that aren't totally comfortable on my feet.

Gotcha...yes, sell and try something different.

I'm bummed because Kathy even fitted me personally and we both thought they were a great fit (not in any way blaming Kathy for the pinkie rubbing).  Sometimes certain lasts don't fit certain feet I suppose.  I remind myself that this a first world problem and that I'm blessed to even have the opportunity to be in this dilemma.

Fitting stationary is one thing, it is a different story when prolonged motion is introduced into the equation. I am sure the shoe fits so to speak but perhaps like you said it is a last issue.

Good luck with your decision.

Thought about it but can't decide on a price. Feel better putting them up as an auction and letting the market determine the price.

I know there are others with an interest in potentially picking these up; however, if you like the model, it might be worth taking to a cobbler to evaluate stretching before unloading them.  Otherwise, I would recommend listing them at (even slightly above) or very near retail value.  Also, you might want to see if you can snag something comparable before selling.  It sounds like there are already plenty of possible buyers.  You have a popular size after all.  Good luck.

Really dumb question. I just replaced my favorite pair of BB cordovan loafers with the lined Alden equivalent. I fly frequently and generally go through the TSA Precheck line (where you can keep shoes on). The Aldens set the metal detector off, where the BB loaders didn't. Anyone know why this is?

And for those who will say loafers are meant to be slipped off I sometimes go sockless and don't cherish the thought to walking barefoot on that floor.

Same here too. Had to get rid of a beautiful pair of boots and now will only look at a half-size or a width up.

Sounds like you've got a couple of options but if they fall through, I'd be interested.

I never had the BB version, but I have the exact same problem - I travel regularly, and I picked up these LHS to use as an airport shoe.

It sets off the scanners, and then I end up looking silly in footy socks or walking barefoot which makes my skin crawl...

So yea, I've not brought them on my last few trips

All my Alden's. Alden proper or a vendor variant (i.e. BB) all set off metal detectors. It's an awesome feature that we get to thank the steel shank for. No clue why your older BB LHSes don't. Maybe they had a sufficiently small shank.
