Happy New Year!!  I'm new to SF Alden thread.  I went to NY Barneys today to try on couple pair of Alden shell and they were awesome.  It was perfect today because most of the people at Barneys are crazy with the 60% sale on the other corner of the store and I got to try on different style of Alden shoes on the shelf.  Which one will be a good one to start my Alden shell collection?  p.s. I tried color 8 Plain toe blucher, Black cap toe blucher and a color 8 Plain toe chukka.

Of the three you mentioned:
1. color 8 PTB
2. color 8 chukka
3. black captoe blucher
For your intended uses, I would stay away from the black captoe blucher altogether. I have the black captoe blucher - and love it - but I don't wear them casually.

I'd second this recommendation. I'm a huge fan of the color 8 PTB as your one pair. However, as for the other two, there are lots of Aldens I'd consider before these, but I suppose that wasn't the question. If that were the question, I'd consider various colors of LWBs.

Those are my next pickup for sure.
I like this a lot. Especially the CXL leather. I have a brown CXL Wolverine 1K oxford shoe and I'm loving the patina that develop every time I wear it. It is hard to decide... I'm not sure it is a wrong thing to check out this thread because I got addicted to the shell material and it is soooo cool.

Of interest to Alden fanatics like me, I was at the newly re-vamped Disney California Adventure amusement park the other day. On their 'main street', called Buena Vista Avenue, there is a shop called Elias & Co. which is supposed to harken back to the old-style department stores of yesteryear. Behind one of the registers is an Indiana Jones apparel display, where Alden Indy Boots are prominently featured. They looked like 405s to me.

You can see the Alden Indy Boots in these pics:

I don't believe they are for sale in the store or anything, this was just a display to sort of evoke a store that Indiana Jones himself may have shopped in at one time.

The Alden's definitely caught my eye immediately as I entered the store though.

^ Hey I think I've seen a couple of your shell cordovan videos on YouTube. From there, I think I was directed to a review video you posted on the new McDonald's chicken strips.

Also a quick plug for Nick at B Nelson. He modified my cigar PTB to have a dainite sole and matching eyelets. I'm very please with the way they turned out.

Thanks. I am giving some thought to the Dainite for my black shell chukkas, and its nice to hear these turned out well. About $150?

They look nicely done. Did Nick change the welt? Has the fit of the shoes changed in any way (I recall someone posted in this thread that the fit of his boots changed after the soles were changed by Nick)?

Those PTBs look great. Huge impulse coming on to swap out the sole of something... anything.
