Can someone tell me how the Aberdeen last Tassel Loafers ("Tassel Moccasin") fit? I've noticed there seems to regularly be a pair or two close to my size on eBay. I wear an 11D Park Avenue but often size up to an 11.5D for more casual shoes (I just bought a pair of 11.5D suede AE Player's).

Thanks in advance!

I would find a place to try a pair on. The tassel loafer is very common. The shell version (IMHO) fits differently than the calf. Best to go try a pair on rather than use trial and error. That said, I wear a half size down from my AE size.

In my experience, the Aberdeen tassels are a tricky fit. The Aberdeen varies to begin with depending on style/material, and the slip on makes it more difficult since they need to be snug enough so you don't get excessive heel slippage. My advice would be 11D, but find a store that carries them or order from a place with a generous return policy.

I was lucky enough to pick up a pair of ravello and whiskey LWBs recently. Unfortunately, I am not sure if I should keep either pair.

With the ravellos, the vamp of the right shoe appears to be much lighter than the left shoe. It is also somewhat lighter than the rest of the right shoe. I've seen comments from members of this forum state that the color #8 shoes go through an additional finishing step at Alden. Is this true for the other colors as well, or is variation of this type typically a result of the tanning process? If it is due only to the tanning process, I guess I am just surprised that it would not be caught much sooner in the process. If it is just the finishing step, is there anything that can be done to correct the issue, or I am better off just sending them back to the retailer?

With the whiskeys, there is an area on the upper of the right shoe that has dark brown or black streaks that make the area appear almost "dirty". The same area on the outside of the shoe has a similar, but less pronounced appearance. To me, it almost appears as though the shoes were polished in that area with a dark brown or black polish before leaving the factory. That area of the shoe also has a much duller appearance than the leather near the sole.

Has anyone else seen this type of dark striping effect with other whiskey LWBs, or other whiskey shells? Is it just natural variation in the leather, or something that can be corrected?

Been looking for a black shell plain toe boot..ideally the black pitt boot but they have long been sold out.

Does anyone happen to know if there is something similar available at the moment or know of anything available for pre-order.

I really like the the brown edgetrim on the pittboot but saw these at the ny alden store yesterday and might have to pick them up if they get my size in. Are there any other differences between the two? Also there have a crepe sole

thanks

You won't find it "in stock" as those models sell out within 3-4 days of being on sale, often in 1 day.

To get a pair you have to be proactive

Contemplating a "no new Aldens for 2013" pledge...though I only acquired two new pair in 2012: the Unionmade Brown Alpine Grain longwings that just arrived

and the Chromexcel Chukka boots that I'm still selling (see sig).

Two isn't so bad, but there were several other shoe purchases in 2012 and now I think I need to scale back. Well, at least stop buying...

I've sworn off all rare cordovan for 2013. I have some color 8 on preorder from Leffot and I will likely get a black pair and maybe some suede, but no more compulsive rare cordovan orders for at least a year. I need to refresh other areas of my wardrobe (watches, suits).

I go with my regular aberdeen size but down one width.

Uncle, I have appreciated all of your suggestions and feedback throughout the year. And I certainly wouldn't question SevenFold's wisdom or motives.  He has also helped me quite a bit with past purchases and all things Alden.  I was just having a little fun with the good counselor.  You both are greatly appreciated along with several others here.

Thank you all for allowing me to be a part of this warm and friendly Alden-SF family. I wish everyone here a prosperous and healthy year.  Happy New Year, and wear them in good health gentlemen!

Ancient mathematicians were stumped by the problem of trying to square the circle - we have Alden lasts and sizing to keep us busy. I fear that the answer to both questions is the same.
I was hopeful my shell monks would arrive today, but, alas, I fear not.
Happy New Year everyone.

nephew,
which color did you order?
