Somebody wanted pictures for SF Aldens Cigar LWB? The edges are pretty dark, which makes it great for work shoes.

I've come to terms with me not getting a #4 basically ever. I was curious what you think the chances are to get the captoe boots in Cigar. The #8 is pretty but the Cigar is just gorgeous. Thanks again for the info you guys have all been incredibly helpful.
You might get lucky, but the waiting list is about 6 people deep for each size at Alden DC. Call and get on the list. That's the only way you'll get a pair. Sorry for being such a downer today, but the is the way it is with Alden shell.

These are both on the Barrie last, any ideas where I can pick one of these up?

If you scroll back through the last few pages you will can take in a complete synopsis.

Also LOL at #4 as first shell color.

Wish I'd been paying attention / heard about this MTO.  The boots look amazing.

Tif, the probability of getting seconds via TMS is also non-zero. I wouldn't be surprised if the odds of acquiring the boots this way rather than through other retailers are actually higher.

would happily MTO  a #4 captoe from someone else like trickers etc IF I could pin down the welt/sole that the shoemart offering came with.. the shoemart looks to be perfect, but not a fan of the trickers natural welt and (what appears to be) white stitching on the pair above..

how much flexibility does one have with trickers on their MTOs?

please excuse the slight threadjack :o

Depends on how much time you spend inside versus outside. I work in an office in Houston and spend my entire time indoors except for lunch. I haven't noticed any issue with wearing shell versus calf during the summer. Houston office buildings typically feel like refrigerators in the summer with AC typically on full blast. I have colleagues that keep sweaters in their offices in the summer to stave off the chill.

It's 5-6 months of the year where it's hot and humid (more or less mid-may to mid-october). And it's really August and September where the heat and humidity peak.

You can pretty much specify everything.

Also, for sizing... I'm a 10D on a brannock, but I wear 9.5D in Wolverine, for example.  In my Allen Edmonds McAllister, I'm a 10 D.  What should I do on the Barrie last?  I hear a 9.5 because the Barrie runs about 1/2 a size larger, but shell apparently won't stretch much?

Forget the color 4 and Ravello, is what seems to be the advice over past couple days. I wear 9D 1000 mile boot. Barrie 9D works great for me. Hope that helps.

Thank you JezeC. They seem darker than the Alden NY batch that just came out.

Wonderful. I'm moving there in mid-May so just in time for the hot and humid season.

My wife has told me the same thing about buildings in Houston. It'll be burning up outside but freezing inside. I'll see how it is when I get there but for now I'm staying away from shell and from boots.

These are absolutely amazing. Trickers seem nice but they never appeared to be my style but I would love something like this. Used the link provided on the MTO options and sent an email to see how the process works.

I'm not quite where Bakkes is but I do find that the more I investigate options outside of Alden the more pleasantly surprised I am. I am fine with paying a little more for less common and harder to work with shell, but this process of calling retailers and competing with those 'insiders' who have established relationships is tiring and just a little bit annoying. I'm far from a conspiracy theorist but the idea of cigar (brown) being treated as a rare shell has always struck me as more of a marketing strategy than anything else. Lack of credibility in one area raises questions in others. Alden's will likely remain my first choice, I just don't feel like working so hard to spend my money. As other options become known, I will continue to explore them.

TX = cowboy boots? I wore boots in NYC once in a while and I never really notice enough to not wear them. I personally don't think they will be uncomfortable; however, comparatively loafers would be more comfortable than boots.
