That was the suprising thing, the shoes arrived the 24th and they called me this a.m. and told me I would have them in my hands next week. I certainly have no compliants there.

I sent my Black Calf NST's back about 2 weeks ago and was prepared for 8 weeks. Guess what just showed up at the office? Very nice service and the results are teriffic.

Speaking of Ravello Captoe Boots, I have the recent one from Unionmade in 9D. Great boot, nice shade of ravello, just not sure of how much use I will get out of them (already have 2 ravello capote shoe models, etc.). Anywho, I would entertain a swap if someone is so inclined.

I received a pair of the jcrew alden indy boots for christmas and I'm having a bit of trouble deciding about the fit, so I thought I might ask here. I got a size 9.5 in the boot. In most shoes, I wear a 10, but I'm on the smaller side of a 10, and I do have some shoes in 9.5.

I feel like the boot fits very well around the heel and instep. There isn't really any heel movement and it feels comfortable. However, I do feel like the toes have a ton of room around them. As I said the heel fits well and doesn't bother me if I walk in them, but feels kinda funky that I can wiggles my toes so much inside the shoe. If I lift my toes up inside the boot they touch the ceiling just before the white moccasin stitching. For anyone else who has them, does that seem about where they should be hitting? I know its a bit of an odd question. I would return to try a smaller size, but the 9s are apparently out of stock until end of February, and I don't live near an alden store to go and try other indys on in person.

hard to tell as precisely, i guess about 1-2 inches past end of lacing? the shoes feels comfortable, except for my toes feeling like they are sticking out into a big empty box....i don't know if a smaller size would help, or if that ruin the fit in the rest of the shoe.

Generally I've found the indy boots to run large, even for barrie lasts. I just lace mine a little tighter than usual when wearing thin socks.

I had to size down 1 whole size for the alden/jcrew ones, going down just a half size felt like clown shoes. Not to mention they stretch.

Bottom line, I knew they didn't fit well right off the bat and personally I knew that was going to bother me for a shoe I'll supposedly have for a long time. It's worth waiting to get the right sizing.

What you are describing is a pair of boots that fit. Your toes should have room and once you find a pair of shoes that gives them room, it feels wrong. Go with it!

Nah I know what he means. I have indy boots and oxfords, same issue with both. Even though they are both on Barrie they seem to have more room than others on the same last.

For those still curious, I had emailed Unionmade earlier in the year regarding their Brenham brown alpine loafer, and this is what they had to say about the Tom last:

"The Tom last is more commonly used in Japan and fits similar to the Aberdeen, but with a more rounded toe."

Got caught in an absolutely horrible downpour en route to Alden SF

But it was worth it because I picked up some whiskey chukkas today, first whiskey and first chukka in my ownership
