Thanks, Steel. I deal with the wait by forgetting. Worked out well as I had no clue when SF called me regarding the whiskey lhs. It was like the pleasant version of memento.

I'm going to try and forget too but this is going to be my first shoe preorder, it won't be easy with my level of excitement.

Btw those whiskey lhs are stunning!

Seriously, I've been flirting with the idea of operationalizing when an Alden collection is done. I went a bit insane for the Leffot tanker because I'm a big fan of shell boots on barrie, a big fan of antique edging and because I have 0 nsts in the collection. What do you guys think? I've got lwbs, chukkas, wt and pct boots, ptbs and lhs. I think I still need to cover tassels and maybe a king and/or cigar nst shoe. I try not to be too formal when wearing suits, so I'm thinking of foregoing trying to get sizing right on bals.

One of the best Alden boots on the market, you made the right call

I know what you mean. Good luck containing your excitement. My first preorder was last year's Leffot Naval Boot. I think I was on pins and needles for a long while, having just discovered shell cordovan. I recall PMing my boy BeSpiffington and commiserating with him about the wait time. He was a good chap, convincing me I needed PTBs in the meanwhile. And there you have it, the best way to get over the preorder wait time is to buy more Aldens!

And thanks for the kind words about the whiskeys. I honestly didn't have high expectations, as I've seen pairs with very uneven dyeing, but SF knocked it out of the park. Now I need to decide whether to dump my imperfectly fitting 9C cigar lhs's. Anyone here a 9C? I'd be easy to work over on a deal, as I've never sold anything here before ;)

PSA - just got an email from JGilbert that they have a new spring arrival: navy suede tassels on Aberdeen. I'm curious to see how guys would rock the navy suede. Seems tough to pull off with denim, but I'm remaining openminded

How fast that Tanker pre-order sold out blows my mind. I'm not trolling for a sale, but it makes me wonder how much I could score for the pair in my closet? I bet there's someone out there who'd be needy enough to pay a grand. I'm starting to think I'd get a better return than my 401k with a buy-and-hold strategy in shell. We're definitely in a bull market.

quick quetions for y'all

I am looking to buy a beater boots for my upcoming trips. I am weighing between either a tan wing tip boot with commando from J Gilbert, or the popular indy 403. What do you say?

I have both boots. Although I like the burnished tan wt boot, the 403 on cxl can take dings and scratches better.  I think it will develop a nicer patina over time. The wingtip boot will need semi regular applications of tan paste wax. Kind of annoying over time. The 403 can get scratched up and look vintage.

I am such a sucker for wingtips and that's why the question. Wonder what would happen if I treat the wingtip boot as everyone's treating their 403....patch[1].gif

I'd be more inclined to get something like a wingtip boot on chromexcel or natty cxl. See, e.g., Epaulet's natty brixton boot.

I own no calf aldens so I cant speak to the ruggedness, but CXL I can say is definitely great for a beater.. You could rub most scratches out with just your thumb. Anything left after the thumb treatment, a little VSC would make quick work..

This pair of 403s were 'fixed' with just some rubbing and a light application of VSC

The tan calf wingtip boot is awesome, but not a beater boot. I plan treating mine like calf dress shoes (regular paste wax). They already get tons of positive attention
