Alciabades, please check out the AoC black shell medallion toe boots. I want you to consider them because they don't have my size, and I think they're about the dressiest boot available without going to something like a John Lobb balmoral. Good hunting.

Great minds think alike!  :D  Sorry for the repeat post.  Didn't see this beforehand.

As a Marylander, I find myself in boots almost all the time (although summer is brutal). I think a good compromise this year is to maybe get a pair of dressier boots to compliment my Rancourt/OSB/Indy trio.

I'm in Northern VA and I'm more in to chukkas. Not really a boot person.

I don't have experience with the dover pattern, but some were saying that they felt a little more snug than a standard PTB. If you're wearing them for summer, chances are you'll be fine.

Thanks for the info. I have a pair of brown leather and a pair of sand suede Dovers currently and they fit great. It's my only experience with the Barrie last though so I can't say if they fit more snug than others.

Is there a way to tell from the writing on the inside of the shoe what last it is? I know AE's do but I'm not familiar enough with Aldens to know if they have a similar system in place.

Yeah, I saw that after I posted. They are completely off of their website too!

Two years ago, I was able to call Alden DC and purchase this boot in my size pretty easily. I believe they had both 9.5E and 10E, and Kathy and I figured out I needed 10E. Similarly I was able to purchase Whiskey Indy boots from Alden DC with the same ease.

Now, this boot has a waiting list that is 6 people deep in every size with no timeframe on availability.

Did cigar cordovan really get that much become rarer over that time frame, or did demand for these boots really multiply by four or five times? It seems more like the latter. How did demand grow so much in so short of a time frame? Is it due to this thread?

Not that long ago in real life, but in regards to Alden that seems like an eternity ago. Readily available cordovan Aldens...wow.

Not sure but it has been a standard item for DC.  I got mine about 2 years ago just by calling Kathy.  I expect this thread had something to do with the list growing so long....

Nice to know I got into Aldens at precisely the wrong time. Wait a minute... I must be part of the problem!

so.....I just got my scotch grain chukkas from the Union Made sale.....they look great but each boot has a small pinhole along the back seam on the heel....the hole appears to be through the outside leather only as it cannot be seen or felt on the inside leather lining.....once worn I would imagine this would be an afterthought that will go unnoticed......is that something I should be overly concerned about?

they were on sale at $318 so they were priced closed to what seconds would be.....any suggestions?
