Just got them in.

To recap, last week I asked for sizing info on #8 LWBs. I'm a 7d on the Indy boot, 7.5d on eh AE #5 last, and 6.5E on C&J 337/348. Not that it really matters, but I measure 8.5b/c on a Brannock (7.75 arch measurement tho).

Of these, the indy boot is actually the least snug and pretty comfy with medium thickness athletic socks. I was actually concerned that a 7d LWB might be too much volume, that perhaps a 7.5c or even 7c would work better.

The verdict? The toebox feels crowded. The rest of the shoe feels great. But this is a crazy stiff shoe and my assessment here feels pretty marginal - if calf and they had some give, I'd probably think they were just about right. My same size Indy boots (well broken in mind you) feel substantially roomier, like a half size up. I haven't laced them up and walked around as there's a big warning label from Shoe Mart not to do so lest I sacrifice my ability to return.

But with just them on my feet with thin dress socks, the heel feels secure. The instep is okay, it seems like if they were laced up the flaps would be pretty close to touching (I have a decent arch with low instep). But I need more toebox.

It looks like I may have access to a 7.5c, does that seem the most reasonable route? The toebox issue is one where a touch more would probably do it, but would probably be okay losing some volume in the rest of the shoe..

All I have seen is Context and LeatherSoul (who did it a few years back and I don't think that they were on the Commando sole).

Edit: they were Commando and was done in 2009... Ref: http://leathersoulhawaii.com/2009/08/11/alden-shoes-nst-hight-boot-in-black-shell-cordovan/

These just arrived today. I'm in my PJ's breaking them in, in classic SF fashion. Probably going to wear them tomorrow.

Congrats, great looking versatile boot. We've got some lucky pajamas on this forum (even if not pictured).

Ok Alden experts, how would one go about finding a cigar shell PTB? Is it possible to order through a retailer or do I need to wait for a retailer to do a run? Any thoughts?

Call all the major Alden retailers (DC, SF, and NYC) and ask if they will be doing another run of Cigar PTBs anytime soon and get your name on a list.

I would go with the 7.5 C based on your brannock sizing and my experience with the same issue. Don't kid yourself and get shoes that are too short........

has anyone owned or handled both brooks brothers and alden shell belts? i just got my bb belt from their holiday sale and it's a bit thinner/flimsier than i had hoped it would be for the price. i haven't handled an alden shell belt though, so this may be par for the course. thanks in advance!

Context will have another MTO for this exact boot pretty soon I imagine - seems to be one of their staples. I would contact them directly if I were you... very nice people.
