Why is it that I see some shoes with rolls on them and some without?
Is it because the shoe was sized improperly?  Broken in wrong? or just the person's gait?

Thanks.

I think it mostly depends on the style of the shoe.  LWBs tend not to have many rolls.  The PTB will most certainly have noticeable creasing because of it just having one piece of shell.  One's gait, improper fitting, etc... all play a part also.  I assure you though, that the PTB I just posted was properly sized and fits me quite well; there is no way to avoid the creasing/rolls with that shoe...

unless of course you make a new year's resolution to NOT flex and bend your ankles and forefoot when walking, correct Sazon?? :rotflmao:

I went through a similar search a while back and couldn't find what I was looking for. Leffot had a lined "light colored" suede chukka last time I checked in a few sizes. In the end I went for an unlined tan suede chukka on the Leydon last (flex sole) from Alden SF and couldn't be happier.

+1. Of all the Alden retailers I've dealt with, Unionmade was easily the best to deal with and most customer-friendly. Easily.

These arrived today but they are going bac to TSM. Ravello 10.5D Aberdeen, I got $100 discount on them because of the wrinkle on the right shoe.
I learned two things from them. First, while I am a 10D in Barrie, I need either a10.5E or 11D in Aberdeen. Second, and many of you will consider this herasy, but I'm a color 8 or black shell guy. I thought I would love Ravello, but honestly, not so much. I think 8 is King for a reason and it is the most stunning. As for Ravello and whiskhey, I think historically they are less common because untiL recently and maybe in part due to this thread, they were less desirable.

doesn't look like those have the tiger striping that other pairs have had.. I'd have kept my pair if they were as clean as yours

i agree that Color 8 is all that.  But those look awfully nice.  But I am also a great sucker for the NST design.  Those boots look great.

I would pay full price for those boots as the wrinkling is something I could live with on boots, especially in Ravello, which is a very versatile exotic. Having said that, your reasons are sound and make perfect sense for an experienced Alden buyer. Shell's don't fit better with age. If they're uncomfortable now, they will likely remain uncomfortable. And hey, most of us have limited shoe funds and if 8 is king with you then that where the resources get allocated.

Sure wish I was a 10.5 Aberdeen.
