Speaking of CXL chukkas, I had the pleasure of discovering the Nettleton Shop off of Pittsburgh's Market Square this week and the gentleman owner, Scott, mentioned that he'll offer a CXL chukka on a double waterloc sole this fall (so, any day, I imagine). There'll be another shoe on double waterloc, though I can't remember what the makeup is. He had a couple of pairs of cigar PTBs in stock as well, 9 and 11.5D I think he said.

Picked up a pair of #8 LHS myself, which I was waiting to buy when I could try them on. 11D seems to fit me very nicely, pending full break-in. This compared to 10.5E or 11D Barrie.

Some shells will crease like that... My cigar PTBs have similar creasing,
Maybe it has something to do with the direction of the grain of the fibers in the leather? Maybe its more of a roll if the grain is perpendicular to the crease, and thinner creases if the grain is parallel to the the crease? Just a postulation.

^I was in town for business. I was around the corner from Brooks Brothers and decided to take a walk at lunch to see if they had any of their cordovan models to try only. Tassels loafers only. But to their credit, they pointed me to the Nettleton Shop. It's a very nice little store, and I was very pleased to be able to pick up the LHS there. I've decided I really like the toe box on that shoe. It's built like a tugboat, in the very best possible sense. :)

Probably hard for him to get the special makeup or rare colors. He said his most popular models are #8 LHS and #8 NST. He did say that he is carrying Carmina this fall, including a cognac shell LWB on the Detroit last. He might be able to do more shell with Carmina, until that becomes too popular too...

Congrats - these are beautiful and Adam is a true gent to deal with.

He really is. At first I was weirded out by the 100 percent email communication, but appreciated getting responses at weird hours. Then when I got the email warning me of the impending delivery I loved how he finished the email with "thank you for your appreciation of alden shoes"

That is a beautiful and deep ravello, congratulations! Darker than my ravellos, but I like it

Your right, they are darker than I expected but absolutely amazing.

Wow man. Congarts! Nothing like your first pair of shell! And Ravello is a pretty awesome one to start with! :slayer:
Please post up more pics!

It's nice that they are finally getting just a little appreciation, nobody I know personally understand why I waited 7 months for a pair of shoes that came from a horses ass :)

Here's the best I could do with a cell phone, I think captures the color just a little better

There isn't much demand for high-end shoes here, which probably makes things challanging for him. The fact that BB had almost no shell inventory supports this. Most people can't understand why anyone would spend that much on footwear. They think $100 is a lot to spend of a pair of formal shoes for work. Not the most fashion conscious city.

I think your shoes look fantastic. I've never bought into the pen trick, setting creases, etc. Being particular about creases seems to contradict the masculinity of strapping an animal's ass to your feet. If I could sew the horse's balls to the heels of my shells I would.

Finally, someone who gets it.

Hey everyone! I also got my first pair of Alden's and first pair of shell shoes!!! Cigar LWB!!! I'm stoked, but I wanted to ask everybody what they thought about the sizing ... These are a 10 D barrie last... I wear a 10.5 D on the AE 5 last

(I am purposely lifting up my foot in two of the photos to show creasing)

RIGHT FOOT

LEFT FOOT

Wanted to bump this

Match up your thumb with the ball of your foot (joint behind your big toe) and take a top down pic. Do this while standing.
Thank you for your feedback. (I'm new to this clearly!!) Will do that and post it
