Interesting article on European tanneries:

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304448204579181731679456174

While not specific to shoes or our beloved cordovan, it sounds like the supply chain for high end leather is constrained while demand growth has increased.

This is a very good read. I read it today at work. Actually my colleague said...oooh you see this article "shoe boy"? To which I responded they have to mention Horween, right?

Dress shoe rotation

Black
Black cordovan wingtip (either Alden or Brooks Brothers branded)
Black unlined PTB
English Branded Black calfskin captoe oxtord

Color 8
Alden for Brooks Brothers cordovan wingtip
Captoe blucher (either Alden Or Brooks Brothers branded)
Full Strap Loafer
I guess the 990 fits here as well

Brown
Alden Cigar Captoe
Ralph Lauren Marlow Wingtip

Thoughts? I think I am focusing more on "suit shoes" nowadays.. I would need to get a black wingtip and the color 8 blucher while replacing the current versions of my black calfskin captoes and Marlows...

I understand the shortage in lighter colored shell, but I would like to know anyway, in case it ends when i'm ready to buy. Really want my first pair of aldens when I can free up some funds. Would prefer revello, but #8 would also be nice.  Really want a cap-toe boot...

Guilty.
L to R
# 8 plaza
Cigar grant
#4 Barrie
Ravello grant

I will take a guess at lasts, but I will get them wrong. I think the Cigars at least are Grant. Ravellos look Grant like also. Color 8 look Plaza. Color 4s kind of look Barrie.

Mike, you know way too much about shoes. And about my yard.

Couldn't get to it. Is it only available to WSJ subscribers?
