A few words of caution on Saphir Cordovan Creme

-Some folks dislike the greasy finish it leaves behind

-It is not good for spot treating, it will change the appearance of the shoe a little, so use it on the whole shoe.  Use wax for spot treating.

-Apply and work it in to small sections at a time.  It dries fast, so if you try to apply it all over a pair of shoes, it will be too dry to go back and work it in where you started.

What do you think?

Thanks,

There is no one right/wrong answer to this question, or magic number of shoes that any individual should have.  Personally, I like to have a lower number of higher quality shoes than an abundance of affordable shoes.  I have 16 pairs of "nice" shoes.  Meaning shoes that I try to keep looking good.

He wears Marcoliani and gets them from customshirt1.com. I picked up two pairs from there a few months back. They are very nice.

Thanks to BWV, I just landed a pair of #8 slip-on chukkas on the Plaza last, from LS at a great price. Will be in my hands and on my feet in a few days. But now to play the Alden sizing game. I have been at this for a while, so I have almost everything covered. This one is new for me. I wear 9.5 in Plaza tie shoes and boots, 9.5 in Aberdeen tie shoes and boots, but 9 in Aberdeen slip-ons. My best Plaza size is probably 9.25; I think the last runs a sminch big. How secure on your feet are these slip-on chukkas? Which size, 9 or 9.5, is the question.

Dear alden experts

I was recently handed these alden shell boots by a friend

Is this colour cigar?

The boots are quite old, and I notice that the shell is very darkened and rough at the bottom of the creases (sorry for poor photos)

I cant seem to get rid of this despite copious brushing and conditioning. It feels like it is dry and coarse, while the rest of the shell is very smooth and glossy

Is it normal? Can I fix it?

This is all very useful info for a shell novice like me. Your first point, especially, would make me think twice about using it.

All I can share is my experience from wearing these a grand total of one day, but here goes. Plaza fits me very well. I got my typical Brannock size, and for my feet they don't run big at all. A bit snug in the forefoot and toe box, actually, but the good kind of snug. The chukka is definitely loose around the mouth of the boot, which is to be expected for this kind of design. The only thing that was slightly disconcerting at first is that my heels would elevate away from the insole a bit with each step. After a few minutes, though, I found that I adapted by walking with less sloppiness, if that makes any sense. By the middle of the day, the relaxed fit felt very natural. I could see this kind of fit being a deal-breaker for some.

On a somewhat-related note, I'm enjoying how leather-soled shoes in general make me walk more deliberately. I've spent most of my life on shoes that allow you to get away with all kinds of sloppy walking.

Anyway, congrats on the score, and I hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

I really like this ensembl, Blue Collar. Dirty selvedge (APC?), nicely worn Indys, and some kick-butt plaid.
May I ask who makes that shirt?

Thanks

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Special thanks to bakkes as his post was the one that sprung me into action. I got the Reno and cream in a kit 6 months ago and prior to yesterday, the cream was unopened. I will say that my experience has been slightly different than one of his points in that I have not had any trouble with the cream drying quickly. Just like with other products, I wait 5 minutes before vigorously brushing and the results have been great. So much so that I just put a coat on my AE walnut shell dalton boots. As with my Alden's, the results were beyond my expectations.

Well I'm done with shoe maintenance for the weekend. Yard work beckons.

Unrelated, I've got two shoes in color 8 I'll be listing here as soon as I figure out how to include the link in my signature as well putting on eBay later this evening (eBay ID scklc). Both shoes are currently unavailable and have been worn less than five times, which is why I'm selling. One is the jcrew LWB w/crepe. It is a Barrie 9d. Worn twice. The other is alden of Carmel chukka w/commando. Probably worn 3 times. It is Barrie 9.5d.

Just a heads -up.

Jgilbert has a Pre order for that shoe, you can check some pics @ the AoC website , looks very nice.

Yenni at J Gilbert has the #8 PTB Commando open for pre-order right now I believe
