Maiden voyage. After seeing Don's response, I did decide on a light coat of Alden Defender. Glad I did as there were sprinkles today. It definitely did not darken the shoe, which was my primary concern.

I think tilfosi's are the perfect shoe. These aren't quite there yet but hopefully over the next few months they will achieve a similar look and patina.

Easy choice for me too.

990, the least favorite among my 3 pairs, worn today due to the rain later

This made me laugh. I still will never understand why Alden will consistently make E widths in most shoes (including rare shell colors), but narrow widths are few and far between. Seems to me that there would be just as many people that need a narrow fitting as there are people that need a wide, especially on a wide-ish last like the Barrie. I guess Alden has done enough research to see that the wides must sell better than the narrows.

+1. Laughed as well. I need a C for the Van to fit me properly. Seems there are more Cs in this than in others but still by no means easy to get.

Hey Shawnc, thanks for the compliment. These look to be starting out a bit darker than mine (unless it is just the lighting). They look geat now and will only look better as you wear them. Congrats!
Mine when new:

I guess I should invest in some Defender.

Maybe they look around and see more wide people than narrow people!

I wear 10C in Barrie, and it's hit or miss on availability. I wish I could get some of Leathersoul's and others shoes in narrow, but I understand when they order a batch that is not a "preorder" they don't order Cs.

Any easy way to get more C widths is to get a group of purchasers to go to a retailer and get in on a single preorder. For example, do something like get 10 or so people who would commit to preorder for the next run of any popular shoe. Leffot didn't use to order E widths, but they got significant preorder interest for E widths, and now they basically include them in all preorders. Retailers will respond to consumer demand when it comes to shoe sizes / widths.

Beautiful.  If I only drank less whiskey, I could afford some Whiskey!

Yup, brown CXL 403's.  They're about 6 or 7 months old now, worn about 3 times a week.

Just ordered some Whiskey PTBs from DC, I know someone asked yesterday about the sole, they are double leather with light antique edging.
