They had some great cigar color straight tip boots in my size but I resisted the urge. I cannot say I'll be able to hold off if I end up back in that neighborhood tomorrow though...

I also stopped by the J. Press store and picked up a few OCBD shirts - pink, white, and blue... which I'm already wearing. I just wish they made their striped ones with the flap pocket too.

Those plaza last suede loafers are a fantastic Alden model and congratulations on getting them at a sale price.  They look great, and I hope you really enjoy them.

thanks in advance!

Alden NYC has the full strap in color 8, but I think the edging is dark, not antiqued.

just curious, what is it you're lookin to pick up?

The No. 8 wingtip boot from Alden NY with Commando sole.  My problem is that I'm not patient and need instant gratification.  Plus, I don't think they will surface anywhere in the next 6 months.  I know AoC has a preorder but they are saying February and it will probably be June.

I figure someone here has to have a 10 and 10 D Barrie and can tell me the fit difference.
As stated, I am afraid a 9.5 E won't be long enough.

Guys,

It is neither my intent to look a gift horse in the mouth or to belabor a point, but as I begin the break-in process on my whiskey LWB's from the recent TSM madness, I'm wondering why in the heck they would sell me a shoe for $450 that they could have easily sold to me for $661. Given that many of the scores described on these pages are for exotics, and most have confirmed that theirs doesn't appear to be seconds or returns, it simply doesn't make sense. Not only would I have gladly paid full price, I would have been on pins and needles until they arrived. My theory, which is undoubtably based on wishful thinking, is that Horween finally has enough stock of exotics that they are ready to flood the market and put an end to the misery of those who have spent the past few years trying to score ravello, color 6, etc. Again, probably wishful thinking.

I was hoping to get the perspective of some of the more seasoned Alden wearers on why this happened and whether it has happened in the recent past.

I had the same thought on Saturday after I placed my order. I cannot fathom why they took a roughly $580 loss across the two pair I ordered. granted, the ravello nst went back today, but they're be replaced with whiskey nst, so it's a wash..

definitely weird, especially given aldens stance in the past of not allowing discounts unless a retailer is closing out..

Regardless of which way one leans politically here, I think we can all agree that if we want any political advice or dialog we can find another medium for exchange.

Apparently we'd all pay for a horse's @rse if the price is right, but avoid contact with water at all costs.

(That was stupid but I thought we could use some comic relief.  "Can we all just get along?")

Great idea! Thanks Seven!

I had time to call today. Unfortunately, they seem to be very scarce. Anyone notice any timing pattern for Alden BB cordovan restocks? I guess I've got a couple months before I have to return them.

Call Joe or Ed at TSM and ask him. I suspect he will give you a straight answer as to why TSM discounted them. They have always been up front with me.

You are welcome. I have acquired a few Alden for BB models by doing exactly this.

Not sure about timing patterns, but the most recent major restock was the tassel in color 8.

^ By continuing to engage in this, any education I have is evidently not being put to any wise use.  I'll stop.
