Both are fantastc! And I love how the laces match the seconds hand detail...

Color 8 Chukkas and ca. 2007 GMTIIC.

Been loving all the watch talk. I bought my first mechanical watch in 2000, an Omega Seamaster and have owned a dozen or more since then. Once we had kids, the watch collecting bug lost some novelty. I've sold off most of my collection since then. The last watch I bought was the GMTIIC the year the SS version was released.

There are a couple I regret selling, notably this K Serial/2002 Sea Dweller which was one of the last years they came equipped with lug holes.

I always envied you Panerai guys with the big, beefy straps. So I notched a 22mm or 24mm Panerai style strap (from don Ginsler) and shoehorned it onto my 20mm lugged Seamaster. The notches look OK at arms length, but up close is pretty unsightly. I still like the end result and wear it on this strap often. However, it spends most days on a NATO style Zulu strap and I use it for water activities. We live very close to the water and spend a great deal of time on the beach & on touring kayaks in the summer. I like the extra protection the NATO style strap provides.

I have examined these with a fine tooth comb and there is not one flaw with these shoes. I could not be happier. Timing is truly everything.

Looking great shawnc!  Wish I had acted sooner.  Might have picked up several grails at bargain prices.  Did these so-called seconds come with shoe bags and the iconic green Alden box?  I'm guessing no??

Mine came wrapped as usual in the regular green Alden box (not the seconds white), with no "R" stamp. The bags were missing, but these do appear to just be closeouts. It had a pre-increase price of $684 on the box with the sale price. Shoemart should also have a "last pair" page to help move these, but I guess a mention on this forum serves the same purpose.

Thanks for the words RTP. However, your assumption is incorrect. They came in plastic bags, with Alden shoe bags, and yes, the iconic green Alden shoe box.

One more shoutout to REguy. The forum was all over the place on Saturday when this first came to light. Members were both excited and frustrated due to calling the wrong number or talking to salespeople who knew nothing about what was going on. Because of the confusion, and the fact that I was on vacation, I decided to pass. Just didn't seem to be worth the aggravation. Then RE posted a very succinct message that simply included the correct telephone number and two names to ask for. I figured, simple enough, this will only take a minute. Called, asked for Joe, and was told he was unavailable and that he would call back. I left my size and that I was looking for long wings in whiskey, ravello or cigar but that I would consider other styles in those colors. I figured 'sure he'll call back' and went back to what I was doing. Sure enough, Joe called back in five minutes and said he had one pair. While I got really lucky, I wouldn't have even tried if not for RE's post.

Lastly, because of your kind words I decided against pointing out the score of the Steelers-Ravens game last week. It would be in poor taste smile.gif.

Thanks BeSpiff! Have been busy in a while and this thread moves so fast sometimes that it's hard to keep up! I'm trying to show face a little more.

Alden SF. These are the standard boots so most of the Alden sellers should have them.

Lucky! Unfortunately they did not have any in my size (6.5D Barrie).

I'm still on the waitlist for a couple of whiskey shell stuff... going on >2 years...

Those are really sweet DpprDr. I'm guessing Barrie w/commando? Very nice.

I'll tag on this and ask one of my typically rookie questions. Is there such a thing as a longwing boot? If not, is the reason functional or stylelistic? I see many wing tips but don't think I've seen a longwing.

Beatleguese - my first spoiler alert. You were correct, it was much simpler than I thought. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif Thanks again for the way you nudged me to this point.

Thanks! I saw them at AoC, but they are on commando. I would normally prefer that, but I like that wheeled edge on the double leather sole from SanFran. Decisions...
