I
have examined these with a fine tooth comb and there is not one flaw with these shoes. I could not be happier. Timing is truly everything.

nephew,
wear in good health

here I am wining and dining a RL store clerk so I can get the employee discount on the RL Gianni and this Kwhitelaw just wakes up one morning and purchases the Indy - a lesser version of the Gianni imo (altough Gianni might be the worst name ever for an English made, Indy look-alike) without jumping through a single hoop or over a hurdle! How? how do you do it KDub?

I'll tag on this and ask one of my typically rookie questions. Is there such a thing as a longwing boot? If not, is the reason functional or stylelistic? I see many wing tips but don't think I've seen a longwing.

Beatleguese - my first spoiler alert. You were correct, it was much simpler than I thought. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif Thanks again for the way you nudged me to this point.

Yes, these are on the Barrie but with double leather sole.

In regards to your question about a longwing boot, there are makes that do them such as Allen Edmonds and Tricker's (I the latter does a MUCH better looking boot). Without the brogues, the sweeping back style is actually very traditional and associated with balmorals. Below are a couple of pics of my balmoral boots with the leather seam parallel to the ground:

With a heavy open laced boot, I personally don't think the "longwing" style works too well because the lines go against the height of the shaft. I know others really like the longwing boot styles though.

Just recently ordered a pair of standard brown 405 Indys from the Shoe Mart, and when they arrived yesterday I was really surprised at the leather.  A much different look and feel from other 405s that I have seen.  Sort of soft and fake looking.  (Both my wife and daughter independently said upon first seeing them, "those look like fake leather.")

I am going to return them, but just wondering what happened...  Just the latest batch of leather that Alden got, which happened not to be up to snuff?  Has anyone else gotten a pair lately that seemed like this?

Any pics? All 405 leather I have seen has looked the same to me
