I've been lusting over J.Crew's burgundy shell PCT boots labeled "Alden cap toe cordovan boots" for quite some time now. I can't exactly justify the purchase right now, but I've been keeping an eye on eBay and TheShoeMart for any deals. I also see now that I missed a coupon code last week that would've worked, but alas.

Regardless, if I do get a chance to snag these on the cheap(er), I'd like to know what my likely size is. My local J.Crew in Austin, Texas doesn't have any Barrie lasted boots for me to try on, so I was wondering if there are other stores I should be checking out. I'm an 8.5D/E in Allen Edmonds' 5-65 last and 9D/E in their 1-511 last, if that gives enough information for a best-guess.

Also, it seems that J.Crew's site lists some sizes as out of stock and some as backordered. Does this mean the former sizes won't be made again, or does that change? Maybe there's a comparable boot I should be looking at elsewhere?

Thanks for your help.

Not sure of any stores in Austin carrying Alden.  If you're ever in Houston, Norton Ditto carries a bunch of stock Alden shoes.  Ask them to size you in the barrie last and that will help.  If you are 8.5D or E in AE's 5 last, I would bet you could wear the 8.5D in that J Crew PCT boot.  That's my best guess seeing as how you are on the wide side of medium width.  Other barrie lasted shoes may require you to go down to an 8D.  The J Crew PCT boot is notorious for being a little more snug/narrow than usual.

All the best...

Loden green i think its called.

Anyone has same situation as me where you can see i can lace up my left foot more tightly than the right?

Does this mean i need or have more volume in the right foot?

Oh man i am just lovin these..

Those are great looking NST boots in loden calf.

I special ordered loden calf ptb from a store in San Fran.  I got a call a few months ago that Alden had failed to deliver my size - my pair did not pass QC in the manufacturing process, so no pair in that size was delivered or would be.  I am a bit flummoxed that Alden shorts the order rather than makes another pair when this happens.  But this is the second time this has happened in 12 months to a pre-order I made, so I guess that is Alden's way of doing things. They are only shoes, but I was looking forward to green ones!  Now I really wish I had them, but, since I am big fan of NST's, I would really like a pair like yours.  Where did you get them?

Keep checking back is my advice - at some point, the other sizes should be available again, though who knows when.  Maybe call them and ask?  This is the boot that got a lot of people hooked on Alden and every time I am in J Crew in NYC, I see it and know exactly why.

A higher instep on one foot compared to the other will also result in one shoe being laced not as tightly.

They are not boots actually.

Here is an official pic of the shoe from the store's webpage.

I bought them at Tassels in Hong Kong.

Try calling them up i think they ship overseas.

I need HELP guys!

Came back to day and saw this situation on my new worn 3x only NST calf.

1st pic is the right shoe, stitch came out and also now its kinda detached.

This is also right shoe on the other side. Detached a bit not the stitch is now showing.

Left shoe.

This left shoe also has the piece sorta detached a bit.

Should i be alarmed or is this normal?

I live in another country from the dealer but have friends there which can help.

Should i first email Alden or the retailer?

Exactly the same happened to my cordovan STB, just one side only.  Tassels fixed it for me locally.

I think you can contact them and sort it out.

I would not say it is normal, but it seems sometimes happen.

Are the RL Lindricks really worth that much more than a comparable Alden wing cordovan boot?  Retail pricing of 1100 seems a little ridiculous and overpriced to start.

Note: trying to stop myself from jumping on them with the sale!

Did The Shoe Mart just send out emails on seconds? If so could someone forward a size 10.5 and 11. I have been getting the emails, but not recently. swallace_1745at msn.com

At current sale price they are a steal. You won't find a better looking wingtip boot with the build quality at this price again. You can always return but don't sleep on it

That's what I did. Buy first, ask questions last.

It is common but not normal. It is a relatively simple repair for any competent cobbler.

I have half a dozen Alden's with similar loose stitchings. Alden will fix it for free if you ask. But you will have to pay for outbound shipping if you were in the US. I don't know what would be the policy for overseas claims.

I would recommend seeking advice from Tassel, politely suggest to have the repair done locally, but have Tassel reimburse you.

I haven't received anything.
