I think the rule is you have to own a NST before you can own two of the exact same model (same shell color) with different edge trim...:stirpot:

Help me pick one, snuff unlined PTB or Brown CXL PTB!!

I like them both and can wear suede all year long , it'll be for chinos and denim and maybe khaki pants.

I know both will do the job, but will like to hear your opinions, I've never owned a cxl shoe so not sure how comfortable and durable it is?.

Thanks.

My Alden CXL PTB is the most comfortable shoe I own. Hands down. CXL is a very tough, durable leather. I would choose it over suede all day, everyday and twice on Sunday.

+1 for Snuff unlined ptb. I have a tan pair from jcrew. Mine feel light, durable, versatile, and look damn good. Cxl is just as awesome, it may come down to looks or what else you have in rotation.

I'll have to snap some photos of them next to my Indy boots for comparison.

FWIW, here's a pair on Etsy of all places: http://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/162062502/alden-whiskey-tassel-loafers-vintage. Mine appear a touch lighter. This person lists theirs as being from the 80s and I imagine mine are about the same age.

I really like these but they look like calfskin to me.

My Brown CXL PTB. As I said...quite comfy. Quite versatile.

The Cigar Aficionado link posted earlier says that Alden once made the tassel loafer in "whiskey" and "mahogany" cordovan, so some whiskey tassel loafers should exist out there

There's also the plantation sole. I don't like it myself.

+1. I recently purchased a pair of plantation sole shoes and I really like them. But IMO, there is nothing that compares to the comfort and 'walking on air' feeling that comes with commando. As the OP states, it is very difficult for anyone to notice that you have rubber soles. The way Alden does commando is in my opinion, one of their highest achievements.

As someone who recently paid full price for commando chukkas without regret, I would highly recommend, especially at a $100 discount.

An amazing shoe Sazon, as are most in your collection. Would you mind sharing how one acquires a ravello shoe from crew?

I saw that. I was talking about the shoes in the link. I'm far from an expert, but when I looked at the creases, they looked like calf.
