I am also looking at one of the leffot pre orders. I must apologize, for I know I've read the answer on here nearly a dozen times, but Leffots pre order turnaround is pretty reasonable, yes? I desperately need an (almost) all weather boot, but am hesitant if the wait will be many months. Has anyone spoken to Leffot with an expected time table?

I believe he states early 2014 for this round. Usually 4-6 months. Which in Alden world is pretty short...

Interesting makeup, that tobacco chamois LWB. Enjoy!

Does anyone have both the Woodlore Ultra and the Alden shoe trees?

I got the Ultras but it looks like the tree is too bulky for the toebox. My LS Plaza captoe's vamp is flat compare to the bulky triangular shape of the trees. Got a feelign this would stretch the leather the wrong way. Not sure if I want to get the Alden ones if they're exactly the same.

As seen here

Obliged. Pulled the trigger. Didn't want to wait & F up like I did with the Innsbruck Indy, leffot naval 8, etc... This whole Alden thing really is a slippery slope. 3rd pair since May, no shell though. First pre order. Hoping this doesn't turn me off to preorders in the future...

That's been my experience with shells that felt a little snug out of the box.  As it turns out, it's been those shoes that have felt a little snug early on, that have been the most comfortable over the long run.  My calf LWBs felt awesome out of the box.  Now they feel a little too big, but still pretty good.

Has anyone here had a similar experience?

Not exactly, but the bone on my on instep protrudes a little further than normal which sometimes causes a tight fit in normal 'D' width shoes (I love Barrie). I don't know if I would try this on shoes I paid full price for but I got a really great deal on a pair of shell AE's that were a little snug on the sides. I sprayed Kiwi shoe stretcher inside the shoes and then (this is where you're going to cringe) reversed my shoe trees (i.e. left tree in right shoe vice versa) and left them that way for the night. Fair warning, when I first put the trees in, the shoes didn't look good. It looked like I was destroying the shape and look. But I had nothing to lose as I couldn't return the shoes. Woke up the next norning and the shoes fit perfectly and look good as new. They are as comfortable as any non-commando Alden's in my rotation.

Again, I don't know if I would try this with a pair of $700 new boots but for exotics that you seem to really like, it may be something to consider.

+1. Just got an email confirmation a few days ago on early 2014.

FWIW - Every unlined Alden I own or have tried on, shell or suede, has been tighter than its lined brother.

This pic is from a few weeks ago, it doesn't really show the sole all that well. I'll try to get a better one up later:

Yours almost look like a dark Ravello.  Mine are a dark cigar.

These are from CitiShoes.  TSM's version has the antique.  Voltaire says the black edge is exclusive to him.

like this! Typed out on my phone. I'm not actually expecting anybody to take the trouble to do this in this thread, but it couldn't hurt to pass some knowledge along smile.gif

Well when you put it in those terms.......smile.gif
