Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Of course there is a place for both, but the overall look is similar so don't feel too left out

I saw in person the Viberg boots that were made for the 3Sixteen decade collection. Fell in love. Seemed to be built like tanks. Andrew Chen's pair after 2 years of wear still look awesome.

Could be a perfect weekend boot, even in wet weather.

You are talking about the olive "Andrew" boot right? I'm one step ahead of you.

I've considered various Indy boots (and I have the 405 on commando that gets little wear) but I dislike the cork soles on most of them. I also dislike the red brick sole on Alden of NYC's snuff Indy boots, and I haven't really found any advantage of Alden's double waterlock sole on most boots and shoes. I don't dislike it, but I don't find it really adds traction or anything else over a double leather sole

The dainite sole on that Viberg, combined with the captoe, really makes it a great versatile fall/winter/wet weather boot. Crepe (or some other kind of rubber), commando and dainite are the preferred soles for these types of boots, and the dainite on the Viberg looks great.

I'm hoping the dapper gents on this thread can help me with some fall shopping. I'm curious about what jackets you guys are wearing your Aldens with--in both dressy and casual situations. I've wanted to add to my casual wardrobe and have been considering getting either a Barbour (e.g., the Bedale) or Belstaff (e.g., Roadmaster) waxed cotton jacket. For dressier occasions involving a blazer or a suit, I already have a couple Burberry trench and chesterfield jackets. A Barbour store just opened in my town and I finally got to try on their stuff; it looks to be of solid quality. So yay or nay on the waxed cotton look? Prospective Aldens to be worn would include shell boots, indy's, alpine grain, ptb's and lwbs. Thanks in advance for any help!

Crosswound, I'm asking because my wife and my male friends already make fun of my "fashion forward" shoes and colored socks. I want a solid, functional fall jacket, but not one that's too in your face. Expansive, but not grandiose is the look, I think...

docalden2013. all the examples you listed are great. I have a brown waxed speedmaster that looks at home with just about every alden i own. I would also like to throw out barbour x tokito tweed collection. great balance of style, function, and craftsmanship. As a blazer/utility hybrid I like Luciano barbera cotton car coat in a green canvas.
