^^^^  Nicely done MrDV.  I haven't seen many cigar LWBs with a dark brown welt and edge.  Is this pair a few years old?  Enjoy them often and in great health my friend!

To me, the proportions of the unlined PTB look more balanced, especially with thinner wool pants. These PTB would look OK with chinos or heaver flannel or denim... But to me a similar chukka would look even better. So in the battle of the plain toe, it would seem that for me 990 would be behind the unlined and the chukka... Thoughts?

Alcibiades, I prefer a clunky Barrie last reverse welt PTB to the unlined chukka. I just don't care for how the unlined chukka looks on my feet. PTBs provide a much better fit.

It's Friday and my Ranger Moccs made it into the rotation yet again. Love the fit. Never thought I'd say that about the dreaded Van last. ('Dreaded' to me anyway, in the context of the LHS).

being an E width in the PTB as well, I also get the "this seems really wide" - and it is quite surprising how the same Barrie size in a high boot doesn't give me this feeling - i don't know about the chukka but i suspect it would also look quite wide.   I would love to be able to easily try going up half a size and down a width - 8E -> 8.5C as i suspect the 8.5 would be slightly longer and slightly narrower - i would love one of those more experienced in this thread could add their thoughts to this as i might take a gamble with the C width at some point in the future.

I wear a 8C but can't go down to 7.5D (I entertained this because D is more available).  The width is fine but my pinky and 4th toe hit the top edge of the shoe.  Since you are going up in length, it may be OK.  However since you are a 8E, I think 8.5C would be too narrow.  I think 8.5D should be the equivalent width of the 8E.  Besides, you don't want to looking for a C in the Barrie.

These look great.  Alden NY?  How is the sizing compared to Barrie?

thanks for the info.  Unfortunately your posts just makes it seem that the C width might work.  I have to go to the 8E in Barrie because in the 8D my toes hit the top edge of the shoe!

- just as you described - so I am faced with the choice of 8.5D which is a bit long, or an 8E which is a bit wide.  It would be a little indulgent to book a holiday in NY or SF *just* to try on a shoe in a very limited size ..... but perhaps not impossible ..... apparently there are other thing to do in NY other than try on shoes!

Alden NY, GG. Went with my Barrie size. There is some heel slippage but unlike an LHS, it totally doesn't matter. I didn't even notice until I concentrated on it. As someone wrote earlier, it's the kind of fit that, when I'm not looking down at the shoe, and just walking, my feet say "yeah."

I think our boy BeSpiff just coined a valuable phrase and standard...
"... may our feet be happy!"
