to folks that have the alden insoles, what number did you call? the general alden one? i called alden sf this morning after no answer from alden hq, and they were completely unaware of the existence of alden branded insoles. also, the insoles look like they have a good heel cup on them, is that so?

Excellent choice, sazon. J Gilbert does a nice job with their Plaza make ups.

i agree, very nice and congrats on the horween stamps. I have the worst luck with those. Was the J.Gilbert made on commando or double leather? It looks sleek enough to be a dl but I know JG has a tendency to make everything with a commando sole

I think the JG is Commando, as you say. I am expecting the double sole version from LS tomorrow.

I'll be in Boston next week.
Wondering if it would be worth the while to stop by North River Outfitters ... anyone been there recently?

Chamois boots and Levi's at the playground with the kiddos kind of day.

Since crepe came up recently, these are crepe soled, and feel fairly light. They're super comfortable for walking!

Shoe Mart seconds arrived today. I've been looking for a plain toe plaza boot for a while and finally gave up on finding it in cigar.

So what's the consensus on the Ralph Lauren Marlow? How do they compare to Alden cordovan? I own a pair of Alden 990, and I love them. Would I be satisfied with a pair of Marlows?

Check out the C&J for RL cordovan thread, the question comes up from time to time. May be a little biased over there though.

I think you would be very satisfied, you might not even look at your 990s the same after getting marlow PTB. Don't get me wrong I love alden.

I never thought I could consider it earlier in the year when I caught the Alden bug and only had a few pairs. However, after getting lucky with some grails and having more diversity in the collection, it's now easier to contemplate things like wearing shell in the rain or kicking a soccer ball impromptu when I'm out with my son and his buddies. This also gives me an excuse to not obsess over the scratches I put into a pair of grant lasted #8 boots when I accidentally bumped up against a wheeled-office chair whose wheel coverings protrude.

Patina trumps prinstine, right?
Doc, I like what you said about patina trumping the maintinence of a pristine looking pair of shoes. Thank you for your kind words sir, though I am neither elegant or a sage of any sort. I'm just a guy who stumbled upon this thread and is now hopelessly hooked on shell cordovan footwear. Thank you Moneywellspent, Tifosi and Alcibiades for your knowledge and expertise, I can always count on you gentlemen to encourage me to purchase more shell.

Wow stewbone if those are size 10D I actually ordered that exact pair and order was later canceled because I guess you beat me to them and they couldn't fulfill my order.

They are really nice, enjoy them in great health. Ended up working out for me - Once that order was canceled I got lucky and the snuff on modified miraculously switched to being available. Arriving Thursday.
