probably the width (it it squeezed the edges on my toes more than the front)

having tried 8D indy and 8E indy the length of the 8E was def longer than an 8E Barrie (but only slightly) IMO.  I can understand people sizing the same between the lasts.  I am much closer to the 8D Barrie (millimetres away from a great fit) than I am to the 8.5D.  the 8.5D is manageable but a bit "too big" to be a nice fit - For example the forefoot position is too far forward and the shoe looks "long" in length.  A hybrid 8E frontend and 8.5D heel would be perfect for me.

I'd love to get a Barrie last shoe or boot with only the heel area narrower - no change to the toe box.

I am just like you Bakes, in that the J Crew perf cap toe boot initiated an interest in the perf cap toe bal.  I am leaning toward the black shell perf cap toe.  I have never tried the Hampton last.  Should I go with my aberdeen size?

Also, I was tempted to go a cheaper route and pick up a pair of AE Fifth Avenue (calf version)?  Anyone have experience with both (AE 5 last and Hampton last)?  The five last works fairly well for me.

To be honest, I actually like your duckie brown (cognac??) shell boots even more.  If they were 10D I'd be all over them.  Any reason you're letting those go?

thanks man. I bought them hoping they would fit my dad but these boots fit slightly bigger than 9.5D, kind of a 9.75D

Wow, the DuckieB boots 9D fit a smidge under 10D??  Sounds more like UK sizing.  I am tempted, unfortunately though I fall more closely to 10.25D.

Does anyone know what Hubert White in Minneapolis currently has for Alden stock?

[/quote/] From walking past the shop every day, it seems they stock the standard catalog and don't really do anything in the way of special make-ups.

Alden Madison Ave has them now (mine are from there), Unionmade had a crepe sole version (with a few sizes still in stock) & may be planning to restock at some point, and LS had a version sometime ago.

I notice that the rangers come up higher on the back of the heel than the LHS does.  I wonder if that allows it to be more forgiving for those prone to loafer heel slip.  Also, the laced nature should should accommodate those who suffer from LHS strap tightness as a result of a high instep.  I've always said that the 6 eyelet dover ranger (AKA the ones CTYGGG has) in cigar on crepe would be bad ass.  Even more so with 5 blind eyelets.

Yes, Aberdeen size for me.  Its not as narrow in the forefoot as aberdeen.  The same might be said about the heel too.  Not a lot wider, but slightly.  Aberdeen fits me snug all around, but not in a bad way.  Hampton is roomy all around, but not in a bad needing to size down way.

(you don't notice the roomier heel of the 8E Barrie in 6 eyelet Boots (a perfect fit for me) - I have not tried 8.5D Barrie Boots to compare with the 8E Boots.

Thanks dus for the input....Im a little surprised to hear an 8.5D LWB is narrower in the heel than a 8E PTB because I felt the LWB was just larger all around.  If they were boots I think I would be ok.

I tried on a pair of loafers on the Aberdeen, and they only had the half size down and up a width, I could feel the heel slip a little. Possible it will go away when it is broken in, but just wasnt sure.  If anyone has any experience with the Aberdeen heel size between up a size in D or down in an E, please let me know.

Thx
