I got them back yesterday from the restoration and im very happy with the results. the #8 shell bounced back like new. the textured leather pair is much better than before and feel like new. I did not expect the leather pair to return so dark, but I really like the way they look on. The folks at alden even printed the model #s on the green boxes for the return, I thought that was a nice detail.
I asked around, no one seems to know much about the leather nsts. I think nsts are expensive to make, maybe they only do it for shell now.

I can't stop looking at these. Both are amazing but the shell is indistinguishable from new. Congrats MrDV, nice pickup.

I dare say there is no other cobbler that could have restored those color 8 nst's to make them look that good.

Very nicely done, on both counts.

You can also find Aldens at Barney's and the J. Crew men's shop, which are nearly next to each other in the mall by the Pru downtown. Brooks Bros. is also nearby on Newbury St., and kind of in the middle of the walk from NRO in Beacon Hill to the other Boston options. Other than those shops, I'm not sure what else exists. I've heard that J. Press carries them, but I've never actually looked at the Harvard Square location.

If you hit J. press, make sure you stop across the street at the Andover Shop. They don't have shoes, but Charlie puts together the best collection of preppy goodness around. The shopkeeps also have the worst attitudes in menswear. If you happen to get thrown out, please report back with any amusing stories.

thanks everyone for the kind words. i am very happy with the results and will be using their services in the future.

i would send a vintage pair of bb #8 sw tomorrow, but i really like the aged color they have. i wish they offered to reshape and resole but not refinish the color.

i would agree with sevenfoldtieguy, they are the best crew for the project.

thanks for pointing out the newer non shell models zippyh.

I destroyed a pair of modified captoe #8s this weekend in miami. I havent even taking them out of my luggage cause I'm afraid to survey the damage.

Anyone found themselves having to go a half size up on the brannock size for the Aberdeen last? Trying to figure out if a pair slightly bigger than my usual would fit.

odd request, but does anyone know what b.nelson charges to add a set of eyelets?

I remember reading this somewhere, but can't confirm. I want to say $17 per hole, therefore $34 for a pair?

That's outstanding.  i have the same shoe, and they have been looking scuffed and tired.  Now I know what I am doing.  Thanks for the idea.
