welcome to the forum

I think they will be super comfortable for lounging about but not for any heavy walking.

nephew,
wear your suede in good health

Success...........FINALLY! For the first time, I am really happy with the shine on what were previously abused LHS color 8 shell's. Before I share my method, I want to say thanks to all of the members of this site who graciously gave advice.

First, there is really no sage wisdom I can impart. The overwhelming majority of my time involved good ole elbow power. While technique definitely helps, this is mostly an exercise of effort and perseverance. After seeing some of the amazing shines on this site, I was determined to make the effort.

My last 3 shines I have started off by scrubbing slightly with a damp/wet towel (aka Mac method). I have also declined to use any polish or wax as I attempted to completely remove all residue and leftover polish. This was the first time that when I finished wiping with the damp towel that the towel was completely white. This gave me comfort that I had finally got all the old gunk out. The last time I cleaned them I used a bit of Saphir renovater and this undoubtably helped in this regard.

After wiping, I brushed with a horsehair brush for about 5 minutes per shoe (until it felt like my arm was going to fall off). I then boned each shoe (still can't say that with a straight face) with a dear bone. Rather than boning one and letting it sit while boning the other, I boned a shoe and immediately brushed with my horsehair brush. I wanted to spread the oils that the bone raises immediately after boning. Moved to the other shoe and used the same procedure.

Used a little Saphir renovater, brushed, and buffed. Then, for the first time in 3 cleanings, I applied a tiny amount of Saphir cordovan wax. Brushed some more and buffed. Then brushed some more. I'm finally happy with the results. Unfortunately I don't have any before pictures, but here is the after.

Again, thanks to all for some very good advice.

a job well done

(That Saphir Cordovan Cream could literally make a turd shine)

Of course brushing and buffing are also two of the main active ingredients in every good shine.

These - 974 and 9741 - are marked incorrectly, and are not on the Grant.. I am 100% sure of it. They are on the Tremont. I have emailed them in the past about it, to no avail.

I received an email from Yenni today at Alden Carmel. He is currently accepting (very limited) preorders for a color 8 NST boot on the Plaza. Not sure if its double leather sole though.

I was getting dressed for work this morning and decided to take them out of the closet and off the market. nod[1].gif

After not wearing them for months, I think I suddenly like them much much more. I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder.

off the market for sure. I wish I had a pair.

B] Fok's edit: I'm sorta sick of this guy, so I edited out the quoted text. Essentially, when he was informed of his infractions, he decided to insult the mod, who was just doing his job, and gave some BS story about how he may or may not have been shilling his own sales. So he was booted. End of story.

Wow.

"He explained that he used Style Forum more to read about and learn than to write and sell items."

However...

"...he informed me that 98% of his time was spent in the Alden Thread and that he was a very reliable seller, who always sold top quality items and made sure that his products were well kept and shipped immediately."

Elbow power my-man (and definitely view the Mac Method you tube video). Mine are nice shoes but they were definitely abused as I had no idea of what shell cordovan was when I brought them used off of ebay. My instinct was to shine, shine, shine. If I can get these shoes to pop, there is definitely hope for your AE's.

Thanks mcarthur. Again, it was your you tube video that gave me the instruction and confidence to see this through. I would have never ever thought of applying a damp cloth to good shoes as a regular method of cleaning. Additionally, it made me feel less silly about my purchase of a deer bone. When I did it, it reeked of desperation but I very glad I took the plunge.

I'm going to take your word on the turd thing smile.gif, but you have been consistent in your advice on brushing and buffing. They are definitely key.
