Not so much that I dislike it, but for what I wear, I dont think I'ts versatile enough, though I'm happy to be corrected

I wear mainly jeans and chinos, and the place where I work is very business casual, so wearing the No 8 with chinos would possibly look odd

Additionally, I really LOVE the ravello shell longwings, but cant find them anywhere

Should say "I am not a fan of color 8, yet."

Should have mentioned, I'm looking for them in Shell Cordovan. (Essentially bc I have some money to burn, so if I'm buying such nice shoes, why not go all the way?)

This is my first post here but I am a consistent reader.  I would have to say that Color 8 is perhaps the most versatile color I am aware of/own when it comes to leather, particularly shoes.  I have yet to see it not pair well with anything I own from jeans to finer wool fabrics.  Certain styles may or may not however move up and down the wardrobe chain as easily.  I happen to think #8 LWBs and dark jeans looks  f'n sharp, and I wear color 8 BB captoes with suits all the time.  Take it for what its worth, just one mans' opinion but might be worth a revisit, and obviously much easier to put on your feet today.

beepos-Good luck on finding Ravello longwings!  It's doable but a lot of digging is needed.  Have you called every Alden store you can find?  Nobody lists rare colors when they only have a few sizes, so calling is a must.  It's how I scored most of my rare colors over the last 3 months.

I think #8 is a little more dressy than Ravello or Cigar, but not in all cases.  For example I have #8 straight tips, and NST lace ups, plus #8 LHS.  I find all of those are very casual, at least business casual.  To each his own on colors they like more than another.  Many on this forum feel #8 is the King of colors.  What  #8 has going for it, is it shows variance in colors a lot less which is something Ravello and Whiskey can't say.  The variance I'm talking about is different shading on the same piece of material.  #8 also has a deep richness to it that other colors take a long time to achieve if ever. I don't want to write a book about color #8 but it has a lot going for it.  Personally I like Ravello, Whiskey and Cigar a lot, but I do have many #8 in my collection too.

Good Hunting!

See Ya,

Steve

I think that #8 works with jeans and chinos. Shot from the archives here with that combination.

Of course, also note Uncle Macs fine shots above of #8 with khakis. Plenty of other photos of the combination around too.

Certainly hold out for Ravello if that's what you really want. #8 gunboats should generally be pretty easy to come by if do ever decide to go in that direction.

I find color 8 to not only be freaking gorgeous but exceedingly versatile as well. Can't think of much that it wouldn't work with.

Look great! I love the sock combo. I need to find a few hours to break mine in so I can start wearing them. Pictures really dont do this boot justice, it looks killer in person.

Does anyone know of a 986 with an antique edge? I would love to add another pair to my collection but would prefer a pair with antique as opposed to black edging.

Thank you very much sir. I was apprehensive at first because I have the J Crew cap toe boots already, but these are just different enough, 360 degree welt vs. 270 welt with an antique edge, that because they they fit perfectly I am resolved to make them a staple in my rotation.

totalair1: A while back we discussed how close Alden Cigar shell was to Allen Edmonds brown shell. My Allen Edmonds arrived last week and here's a side by side photo with my Alden Cigar shell Chukka's. I really can't see any difference IMHO.

Great looking shoes. I have various models in Alden cigar and AE brown shell. They have definite similarities. One difference - at least for the models I have - is that some (not all) cigar can have olive tones, and none of my AE brown shells have olive tones.

rydenfan: Walnut shell no longer exists...They may have enough for a belt, not sure? But I know for a fact they dont have enough for a pair of shoes.

My MTO walnut shell PTBs arrived on Wednesday (Dainite sole), so I count myself fortunate. It is a great color.

mdubs: I think that they look reasonably close. I may get the belt. I assume that those are Park Avenues in their Brown Shell? I like them, but I really like the natural siding on the Alden Straight Tips alot.

Both are nice. The antique edging and light welt - while unique - do make the shoe less formal. But perhaps that is desired ....

Bootspell: My question to you guys is do you feel the lasts are the same from about the ball of your foot to the heel?

For me, the Barrie is wider throughout the whole shoe.

To all - have a good weekend. nod[1].gif
