Those are nice, but not '4 pairs' nice.

Actually, at 4 identical pairs, REg is closer than foo.gif is to really having a OneShoe wardrobe.

And foo.gif's photochop was only 5 pairs.

Hello.

I'm new here and joined with a specific question in mind.

I've been contemplating buying a pair of Alden Indy boots for a while.  I'd seen the classics in a J. Crew catalogue, and only recently discovered that there are several different styles to select from.

One that intrigues me is the rugged "kudu".  I think it's the 404, but I'm not positive.

Anyway, I'm curious as to whether these boots are made of actual kudu leather, as in the African antelope.  The description seems to indicate that it's made of steer hide, but then why would they call it "kudu"?  Is kudu just an industry name for a type of bovine leather in this case?  I can't seem to get a straight answer from the company in my emails, so maybe I can get some info here.

Thanks for any info.

It's a super sturdy greasy version of Horween Chromexcel calf leather as far as I know. It's just called Kudu because it is close to that type of leather.

Great boots, I love mine.

That's what I figured.

I contacted the company by email and the associate informed me that they weren't actually calfskin (although the product description denotes calfskin on every website I've seen selling it), but made from bovine steer hide, which made the exchange even more confusing.  I don't believe that kudu antelope are bovids.  Pretty sure they are caprids.

Anyway, I'm more inclined to believe your answer.  Thank You, sir.

iirc bovine steers are male cattle that have had their balls cut off . they are raised for beef the hide is a by product. pretty sure thats what the boots are made of

According to Leather Soul, Kudu is calf done in the style of cordovan.

I suspect it's cowhide rather than calf though.

Based on the information I received while organizing the Kudu Modified Indy MTO, Alden Kudu is oiled nubuck. Hope this helps.

+1 on the Ravello LWB's. When I first saw mine I could understand why you'd want at least a couple pairs.
