Was the original edging on the single sole dark as the dark welt suggests?

I really like them, but still not 100% convinced they will work for me long term. The fit in the forefoot and around the toes is great. However, I have a narrow foot (my heel is especially narrow), so there is some heel slippage when I walk. I'm hoping it goes away as the shoe breaks in. But if you look at the 2nd pic here, you can see that when I bend the shoe I'm getting some bowing around my ankle area. I already have a tongue pad in the to help me fill out the shoe a little better. Maybe I need a thicker tongue pad or an additional pad?

Are they TTS?

FWIW ......

I am TTS 9.5D, and all of my plaza boots are 9.5D. However, all of my plaza shoes are 9D.

TTS has lost virtually all meaning to me, I've tried so many different pairs of shoes and I'm always struggling to find ones that fit. These are 12D, and probably my best fitting shoes that I can use for comparison are unlined chukkas on the Leydon, which I have in 12.5C. So these are basically 1/2 size down and one width up from TTS. They feel great in the length, if I sized down to 11.5 then my toes would get probably get pinched.

I've never found a pair of balmorals where I didn't have to use tongue pads, my foot is just too narrow in that area. My best-fitting pair of bals are from Kent Wang, and I still had to use pads to get an optimal fit. I wish I could get that nice V shape that I see in pictures of some people when they lace their shoes. I guess that's the combo of a super narrow heel and a low instep. The problem I have is that if I size down even more or go down too much in width, my forefoot will be crushed inside of the shoe, so I'm stuck with shoes where my heel never fits properly. I wish I could find a size 12 with a combination C/AAA width frown.gif

I agree they look too big. They laces are tight enough to totally close the shoe across the top, totally closed but the shoe is still loose. Appears around 1 size too big, at least 1/2 size too big. Sell them to SF member and get a smaller pair IMHO.

Agree - they look too wide - perhaps sizing down a width
