Does anyone have experience using Alden Dark Brown Boot Creme on Alden Brown Calf?  How does it compare to using other brown cream polish (like kiwi ect).

Has anyone used Alden Brown Paste Wax on Alden Brown Calf?  How does it compare to Boot Cream or other Brown Cream Polishes for use on Calf?

Has anyone sent a pair of Calf Alden's in for the restoration service?  Do they refinish the uppers?  Before/After pics by chance?  Any other testimony?

Thanks

Yeah I've had amazing service from them in the past and they're my go-to store if I ever buy new Aldens again.

I guess they have to draw the line somewhere. It's kind of disturbing how fanatical some people are about letting those kinds of flaws go.

From Mike at Epaulet re Alden Alt Wiens:

For Alden, I re-ordered their Alt Wien in Color #8, in snuff suede, and in burnished tan calf. No estimated date for that, but would probably be next Spring at the earliest.

Thinking of getting Indy boots in #8 on tubulance last. Does anyone wear or have picture of cordovan indy with dress pants? Could not find any picture with search in SF and google.
I work at business causal (slacks and shirts) environment and I often wear 403 indy with chino on friday/weekend to work.
Cordovan Indy would be too casual for dress pants?

Thanks in advance!

I work in same environ and wear mine in fall/winter with wool/gab dress pants and really like them. Also fine with Chinos too. My fav boot by far and most complimented. Here is the best pic I could find with grey dress pants (either BB or EP cant remember).

With all the tassel discussion, I'll post my #8s up. Happen to be wearing them today (sorry for the wonky tassel on the left shoe):

P.S. I'm 35 but dress conservatively.  Maybe that's why they work so well for me.

Bucksfan, kudos my friend. Absolutely an outstanding ensemble. Nicely pressed slacks, properly cuffed I might add, complimentary argyles, and hitting the pavement with what some might say are the quintessential Alden shell loafer, introduced I believe by Alden in 1947 as Mac recently reminded us. I too dress very conservatively, but I haven't had a tasseled loafer since you were in pre-school. All the great tassels being posted lately are pushing me closer to joining your club. Now, if I could only find a pair in Ravello.

As a relative newcomer to this sickness, I find that for the moment I have all the boots and casual loafers I need. I work in a rather casual environment, and seldom find myself in even a blazer it's usually khakis and a OBDC for me.

That being said, I'd like to pick up a pair of shell shoes that are a bit dressier that what I have and would like some advice. I'd wear them with anything from jeans to khakis to a pair of wool dress pants.

I'm looking at: #8 tassels, #8 shortwing on commando soles, or a pair of NST in Cigar or Whiskey. Bear in mind that I have a pair of #8 NST boot on commando already.

Bucksfan, looking good as always. Just when I thought I'd try to be done buying Aldens this summer, you've made me feel the sickness again. Guess I have to follow Mac's advice on color 8 being king and tassels definitely being the way to go. Thanks for helping me make up my mind!

Here's an old pic of my #8 Indy Boots with some grey/black whipcord trousers:

I personally wouldn't wear them with a suit, but I think they are fine with tweeds, cords, or chinos.

Citishoes in NYC has whiskey and cigar NST's.  Alden of Carmel has Color 8 shortwings on commando soles.  The Alden stores -- San Fran, NYC and DC -- as well as Shoemart and, really, any Alden dealer should have, or have access to drop ship to you, Color 8 tassels.

Suggestion:  If you want one pair of shoes for more formal dress, I would suggest the shortwing or NST over the tassels.  Tassels are great, but of the three styles you mention, tassels are the least dressy.

The real answer, of course - what a real man would do -- is to get one of each of your three choices.  More seriously, if you are going to get only one, given your purpose, I would put tassels at the bottom of the three.

Disagree, aldenwear. I think black tassels are a step below the formality of black balmoral cap toes. I think glenjay had a chart on his blog of the formality rules, usually more seams = less dressy. Tassels only have one seam (on the upper) whereas NSTs have four, at least.

I do not have either of the NST's, but I do have the #8 tassel mocs and short wingtip bluchers with commando soles.  I personally think the SW Bluchers may be your best bet.  I picked up mine from Alden of Carmel.  However, the tassel mocs and the NST would suffice as well.

Given your track record, I would have guessed you'd acquire all three (or four; both whiskey and cigar nst)! biggrin.gif

TactileOne: I'd recommend you put the Color 8 PTB into the running. Its a very versatile shoe whose beauty lies in its simplicity.
