I'm doing the Mac method this afternoon as I get some research done this afternoon from home. Can't wait to get them out on the street.

Advice needed. My Leather Soul plaza wingtip boots arrived today, but there are some stitching problems on the right boot. While I understand that the extra thread indicated by the blue circle can be fixed easily, I have no idea what to do with the problem in the red circle. Any suggestion?

Oh... they somehow have also punched a hole in the tongue of the right boot.

Should I return them? I'm more inclined towards keeping them since they look absolute gorgeous if I ignore these problems. Leather Soul said they don't have another pair in the same size, so I can't do an exchange without a really long wait. I would definitely keep them if anyone know how to fix the problem indicated by the red circle. Please advise!

Thank you, Sir.  Very kind of you to say.  I have noticed that you put together great ensembles as well.

Shall we say that it takes fine taste to recognize fine taste?

Loose stitching.  It happens.  Sometimes I get that from brushing.  The hole on the tongue is quite mysterious, but nobody will see it while it is covered by your pant leg.  Not even you.

While this is indeed very unfortunate, you will just have to accept it.  As you say, you are inclined to keep them and a replacement is not readily available.

It really is too bad about Alden QC. deadhorse-a.gif

By Jupiter, yes we shall say so. Those of us who bear the burden of living in a world of the sartorially challenged are humbled by your kind reputation.

You should keep them.

looks to be a double stitch circled in red- could be cut lower so you see more of the perforation wear the thread pulls out. Not a defect and not worth cutting the thread

since you then damage the seam and create an actual defect.

These Alden boots are works of art and this pair, is your pair.

the hole is character and has likely been there since the Horween Factory. Whats one more hole on brogue boot

Kicked a stonewall wearing these - had the worst scuff on any shoe ever. Mac method and the spoon trick with reno. Not even a sign of damage. I could never do that with calf, that is fix the shoe not kicking the stonewall. Oh also dripped edge dressing all over these the following week. Mac method = problem solved.

These have an odd stitch somewhere as well, eventually I laced up my shoes and went to work that day.

Now only $2000.00 American dollars on Ebay

Really want to keep them, but you know - once you've seen it, it cannot be unseen - and it becomes more and more noticeable every time I look at it. I will bring them to a cobbler and see if he has any suggestion about how to fix it (of course I will have an hour long discussion with him before I left him touch the boot).

I would keep them. Would love to see some pictures of the entire boot if you decide to hang onto them.

If these were my boots, I would be contacting LS with photos and asking their help and support. There several options...expedited shipping and repair by Alden, that would be my 1st choice. 2-get price of boots reduced to the going FD/rate and you keep them as is. I think one of those too choices are reasonable. Fix the defect for free and in a timely manner, or offer a fair reduced cost.

Good luck!

See Ya,
Steve

Well, Leather Soul told me that since these flaws are not deemed as defect by Alden (because the boots left the factory?) so if I were to return I would have paid for return shipping, and they would only refund me the cost of the boots but not the cost of 2-day Fedex they used.

If these issues make you return them, you may find getting Aldens a frustrating experience. There are much worse "defects" that pass as first quality. I'm not defending them; I'm just stating a fact.

The longer i have been in the shell game, the easier it has become to look past such "defects." And more often than not, the choice is money back (and no boots/shoes) or keep them. Very seldom is there a replacement pair in one's same size.

I would keep these, for sure.

And I just bet someone on this thread would buy them from you at cost if you decide not to keep them.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.
