I don't think I'd want those blue monstrosities but as an avid bowler (albeit not a good one) I've often thought about taking an old pair of suede loafers and putting them on bowling soles just for the heck of it.
I hear you. One would think that retailers know their market better than anyone else. And the practice of focusing on "D" width almost exclusively (the "typical" or "standard" width - "F" in British shoes from what I understand) is widespread. Most brick and mortar retailers in my town -- a large American one -- stock very few styles in "e" widths. Almost all of the retailers with signficant Alden make-up business rarely offer their make-ups in wider widths than "D". Even most of the Alden company stores, with some exceptions, do not have "e" widths in their make-up runs. I can only conclude that either very few of the population has wide feet, or wide feet tend not to blow their money on shoes.
Someone posted a couple of month ago about Uniqlo socks. I've since bought like 12 pairs and like them a lot for the price of only 4 for $9.90.
If you have a store near you, check them out. They have an entire wall of men's socks in a rainbow of different colors. Or, you could buy online:
It's shots like these that made me pull the trigger on my cigar LWB.
