Anyone here have experience with pig bristle brushes? I picked up a few from Hanger Project and I am not sure what I think. I have always used Saphir horsehair brushes. The pig bristles are slightly stiffer than the horsehair but I feel like is see the streaks of the bristle more than the horsehair.

AE - 150, JR resole, bags, trees, 3 - 4 weeks
BNelson - 150, JR resole, bags, trees, 2 - 4 weeks

I have used each of them various times, and have also had AEs and Aldens restored at BNelson (as well as other brands). They have all done a nice job.

Personally, I don't really care about the turnaround time.

I am to the point where I use Alden for Alden, AE for AE, and BNelson for others (e.g., vintage Florshiem or Hanover).

In my experience, the one great thing about using Alden for Alden and AE for AE is that the shoes are returned as if they are a brand new pair. It makes the money spent and the wait time totally worth it.

Alden only does recrafts with the same materials as the original (no changing leather sole for commando, for example). So this might mean a guy has to go elsewhere. AE allows a person to switch things up. BNelson, of course, has a variety of options.

Great, informative post - though I do not think Alden uses JR soles....

Speaking of brushes. I've mainly used the $10-$15 horse hair brushes so far. Are the $75-$125 brushes worth the investment? Anybody have a "must have" brush that gets those famous MacShines?

See Ya,
Steve

That is unfortunate, they look good. From the Shoe Mart?

Would it be reasonable to sell a pair of the Alden unlined chukkas (including shoe trees and shipping) for $500? They are brand new, barely worn twice to find out they weren't a fit for me.

You can list them for as much as you want. Check my sig and you'll see it's not so easy to find a buyer
