nephew,
good looking cigar and wear in good health

I am interested in ordering the snuff suede flex welt LHS, probably from TSM. Curious if you know if any other retailer stocks them with an antiqued sole or are they all standard dark?

Have never owned flex welt. Should sizing be the same as standard Van? Thanks...

nephew,
my experience- i wear the same size on the lhs (van last) and flex welt (copley last)

Any chance the unlined suede model is easier on the instep than the BB lhs?  The 9.5E BB cordovan shoe fits me everywhere but the LH instep.  It is close enough that I wouldn't worry about it with chromexcel, but it probably won't work with shell cordovan.  I have no experience with suede.

I will give the shoes a new chance tomorrow - then with slightly thicker socks and blister cushions to see if I can break them in a bit. I bought the shoes in-store at Leffot, so I will probably contact them if I find no immediate solution!

I picked up my unlined snuff chukkas from Leffotbas well about 2 years ago.
They felt and still feel like slippers. Never had an issue with rubbing on the ankle or anywhere for that matter.
I wear them with thin socks or even with hidden socks so I can show a little ankle, for the women you know biggrin.gif

Hope you get it sorted.

I'm assuming you mean http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-mens-upl-handsewn-on-the-last-flex-welt-suede-snuff/pvc-ald-mxsdsy-6243f_ald_m_upl_handsewn_on_the_last_flex_welt_suede.html

I just got the snuff suede flex welt "unlined penny loafers" or model 6243F (I'm assuming this is the model you're referring to when talking about LHS) from NeedSupply. (There are 2 other pics from my earlier post this past week, but I didn't want to clog the thread with them posted anew). I find these super comfy out of the box.

The second image is Shoe Mart's, but mine looks like this.

If you pull the trigger, you may want to consider NeedSupply, as you'll be able to apply their 10% discount code. More than covers the cost of shoe trees :) I'm not attempting to dissuade people from Shoe Mart, as I've never bought from them and have heard only good things about those folks, simply talking dollars and cents...

Yes, they are Van lasted. Some say drop down a half size a la Barrie, some say TTS minus a width. ymmv

Best of luck.

Patrick, your shoes always have wonderful shines. In fact, I was thinking of your recent post of gorgeous color 8 shoes while shining my grant #8 cap toe boots last night and lamenting that mine don't look good enough yet to post on forum.

These pics of cigar ptbs convince me that I need to get over my long held bias that shoes should have at least one form of ornamentation (e.g., a wing tip, a cap toe, a perforation of some sort). I now see how simplicity is the best approach in this case. The versatility factor is now obvious to me with these shoes. Guess I'm a bit slow shog[1].gif Just when I thought I was going Carmina, Alden pulls me back in!

Congrats on the purchase and, of course, wear in great health!

Those are nice.
I wish TSM would send shoes up north, I'd be happy.

The Safari is sweet makeup. I opted for their last run of snuff suede Barrie last PT boots.

I recently bought a pair of AE amoks not being sure if I would like suede chukkas . Turns out I love the things . Can anyone who has handled both give me an unbiased opinion of the physical differences between the amok and aldens unlined suede chukkas . I understand the alden is a higher quality shoe but never having seen them im hesitant . thanks for any help. You could save me a 100 mile round trip to san francisco

The Amok suede chukka a fairly solid, comfortable shoe.  There is no comparison however, to the unlined Leydon lasted suede chukka.  The Alden is noticeably more comfortable, and its construction and finishing is far and away better.  On the other hand, one can find the Amok very cheap... ($187 for a model that has been discontinued; they've changed the sole)

http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Edmonds-Amok-Chukka-Choco/dp/B006WDLDIC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368066571&sr=8-1&keywords=allen+edmonds+amok

At about a third the cost, it's hard to justify the Alden at $500. But if you're asking for a comparison aside from the cost, it isn't close.  Good luck my friend!
