I am not experienced in the way that cordovan leather is breaking in, but as you can see at the second picture below there is significant difference between the left and the right shoe after the first 4 times I wore them. I don’t expect of course them to break in identically but … such a big a difference makes me wonder.

Is this something that should be expected? Is this the way the cordovan leather usually breaks in?

thx

My favorite and rare Ravello SWBs broke in this way. It would be a lie if i said it didn't bother me. However, as others have said, it's common confused.gif

Looking good in your Marlows, Uncle!  It looks like yours may have lightened up some since you first posted them.  Wear in great health...

I can't agree with the first part of this... Alden suede shoes last long and look better longer than most other versions. I get as much wear out of some of my suede (tan PTBs, navy chukkas) as I do some cordovan models (like the cigar captoe boots) due to seasonality. The suede feels better season after season while other suede feels worse on the foot after a season or so (I'm looking at you, Clarks). I've said many times that if I could have only five Alden's, one would be suede (and one would be CXL as well).

I was speaking of the random suede/buck combos.

Traditional, leather-soled brown suedes are a must for me, and Alden is a go for those.

Blue suede, these funky saddle shoes, etc, I just can't rock enough for me to - in my head - justify 400 plus bucks.

I own five pair of shells all show soft rolling creases on the left and sharper more pronounced creases on the right this has to be a normal result of differences in my feet or one hell of a coincidental defect

Got lucky the other night and noticed TSM had my size available in the Cigar PTB. I've missed out more than once on this shoe so I didn't have to think twice before purchasing. They arrived this morning and after a bit of brushing, I threw them on for the day. Couldn't be more pleased and TSM was great as usual. They even included a leather covered shoehorn. They were absolutely flawless out of the box. There is nothing like the aroma of fresh cordovan to fill the car. I didn't want to open the windows. It started raining as I walked in the door so I had to settle for some indoor shots when I got home.

well j crew canceled my order for the alden suede bucks i had ordered @ 25% off. i guess they either couldn't meet demand, or didn't want to honor that price.  no big deal since i was on the fence about them anyway.

Question for you out there--

I am interested in ordering the snuff suede flex welt LHS, probably from TSM. Curious if you know if any other retailer stocks them with an antiqued sole or are they all standard dark?

Have never owned flex welt. Should sizing be the same as standard Van? Thanks...

Tan and brown on sale at BB at 25% off, but no snuff.

It's probably worth pointing out that the BB ones are lined.

Ok thanks. Knew it was a longshot but thought it was worth asking the professionals.
