I am all for the dirty buck; a classic with the red brick sole.  However, even with the 25% off, 400+ dollars is much too high for this shoe IMO.  I'm not even sure these are goodyear welted.  Can you have these resoled???  I think there are other  options for essentially the same shoe for much less.  If you are like me, wanting to maximize your shell acquisitions, I would save the $ on offerings like this, by going with alternatives.  I bought these from RL last fall with their 35% sale plus the extra 15% kicker for about $225.  Not sure Alden will make it much better...

i guess i'll see how well i like the aldens when i receive 'em.

This is the exact reason why TSM frustrates me.

Those BLUE Alden's are SUPERB. I just saw them in person at ALDEN SF this past weekend. I didn't have the stones to buy them though....

nephew,
alden only makes it loafers (lhs, full strap, tassels and monks) on a single sole. they have refused to make any loafer on a double sole even custom. c&j make the polo marlow which has a double sole on both the lhs and tassels. as you know horween is the worldwide supplier of shell cordovan

Thanks Uncle.  I thought it might be another maker, but I hadn't seen the Horween stamp like this on C&J before.  I do not remember if it said Made in the USA.

perhaps a redundant question, but how does a 8D and a 7.5E Indy compare ?

For comparison, I've had 9E and 9.5D 403s back-to-back and the 9E was obviously shorter, and maybe slightly wider (noticeable at the heel). With my foot, the 9E was passable but the 9.5D was the better fit.

I agree here. Unless you have quite a bit of expendable income, the random suede varietals can be had for less than a quarter of Aldens. I just got some blue suede with red brick soles from Lands End at 40% off, they are goodyear welted, I will wear them probably fewer than 10 times/year, and 99.9% of the populous will deem them as "nice" - even though they are not nice compared to the Aldens.

Plus, bucks should be beaten to hell. They begin looking excellent when they are dirty - hence the name, right ? (I'm just assuming here)

All Aldens are goodyear welted, no?

Arguably my best Alden purchase. I need the 9901, too.

I seem to recall seeing those loafers on some lookbook or blog.
I think they were the same season as these grain loafers.
