Gents, I recently purchased the Alden x Epaulet Black and Tans, and read that they are made out of "Pegasus" leather. Wanting more information on this leather, I found what appears to be Horween's leather chart. I thought this might be of some interest to some of you, particularly because it gives more info about chromexcel leather (among others):

What should my next purchase be

Cigar chukka (I already have a cigar PTB and a cigar captoe boot)
Ravello NST boot (I already have ravello tassel loafers and ravello longwings)
Color 8 unlined PTB (I just have a color 8 longwing)

I have ravello captoe boots and a cigar longwing on order...

Interesting chart. Since I also have the Black and Tans, I was happy to see the checkmark in the "Waterproof" box for Pegasus leather. Not sure just how waterproof that means, but at least it confirms my impression that the boots do pretty well in moderate exposure to rain.

Happy Friday! would like to share what came in my mail today. Alden LS x SE boots in natural! I can never be happier!!!:happy::happy:
You can check out more pics in my blog, here

I got mine Friday as well and broke them out to wear today. It's indeed a great looking boot and very comfortable. Next I need to get the corresponding jeans from Self Edge to go with them :slayer:

(edit: I don't know why the photos are showing up at crazy angles)

Two weeks living with shell: As most of you know about two weeks ago I purchased my first pair of shells. PTB from Shoe Mart’s irregular dept. that were “perfect.” I have worn them about 12 times since, and early on got a couple of water “bumps.” Which you can hardly notice now. So I wanted something to treat them with for foul weather, and that I could afford going forward and that I could use on my other leather boots. I had read on a blog where Nick Horween recommended Venetian Shoe Cream for Shell and CXL. So I bought two rather large tins. I mean can not tell you what a great shine I got from the cream and how it brought out the natural beauty of the shell, it was also very easy to apply and brush down. And most of all water does not penetrate! This is a really great product at a very reasonable price, that can be used on all kinds of leather - it also worked wonders on my brown CXL Indy boots!

Yep, Venetian shines shell great (better than Saphir Reno). If you follow it with some Leather Defender, I would think you'd be ready for a total downpour without any issue.

Post some pics?

So how do you know which type of leather is 'Pegasus' leather? Can it be assumed that all black calf leather used on Indy is 'Pegasus' leather?

Are the standard 401 that are black Indy's made with 'Pegasus' leather or is it more typical of special mark-ups?

Yes, I just ordered Kudu Chukkas from Alden in DC - I had Kathy throw in a bottle of Defender - though I have to say that the water just rolled off of my CXLs with just the Venetian. And I don't do pictures - I have to get my son to do that - if he has time perhaps I could post a couple.

Why did you buy 2 tins? 1 32 oz should last you a lifetime I would think.
