I am a 9.5E in Barrie but I can wear 10D in a lot of Barrie models (my whiskey chukkas are 10D for example). However the Barrie captoe boots in 10D were uncomfortably narrow.

People have reported the same issue with Tanker boots. My 9.5E tankers fit but do run a bit narrower in the toe than longwings and chukkas.

I respectfully disagree with the versatility argument.  Because it is an oxford/balmoral, it looks as though it should be paired with more dressy attire; to me it's out of place with jeans, although the broguing makes it more doable.  While it may have a more sleek profile, the tremont last has a big rounded toe which makes the shoe look more noticeably bulbus, which in my opinion negates the sleek profile.

On the other hand, I should explain that I very much like the slightly bulky look of the barrie last, and the bigger rounded looking toe of the tremont doesn't bother me a bit.  I like the 974 (and my whiskey version), but I do not wear it with jeans.  I do however, wear the LWB with dressier attire (some suits) and casual wear as well.  Thus, the LWB is much more versatile imho.

Shortwing bluchers (like the Marlow and Leather Soul's models) are the most versatile of all. The "Atom" is pretty close as well

Though as Chorizo illustrates, balmorals can look outstanding with slim jeans

Got my cadet shoes, will be returning as Barrie last is way too bulky for style, bummer though as I love black shell

Once the rain cleared, twas a fine day for my suede PTBs...

Was wondering if anyone has both the tan suede PTBs and the Suede LWB?  Not sure if it would be too similar or redundant to have both.  The snuff suede LWB is seriously growing on me. nod[1].gif

I'll make you feel better: They only came in black and initial reviews are that they are a little clunky.

I have the exact opposite... Tan suede LWB and Snuff suede PTB :)

Rydenfan, are you pretty happy with both?  Any regrets that you didn't use the money for one of them, for another shell offering?

FWIW, black is standard issue in the courtroom. Thought I'd carry in some SF swag.

I dont have my tan suede LWB's yet as they have been on order for 16 months or so. But even though I dont have them I can tell you that I have no regrets and cannot wait to get them. As much as I love shell I always struggle with spring/summer casual wear and these work perfect for me. Furthermore, the PTB on the Barrie with the single flex sole is so damn light and comfortable. I also like that the colors are different enough that both work in the spring, the tan better in the summer and the snuff better in the fall so I can get a longer season mixed in by having both.

Just received my first pair of Alden shoes, Indy boots in Black. They are seriously the best looking shoes I have ever seen. The leather and quality is simply just amazing. Was worried with the warmer days they I would be unable to wear them, like I could with my red wing chukkas, the indys are only 1 1/2 inch higher, and a lot lighter in weight.

To care for them I plan on just brushing them once in a while. Is there anything else anybody would recommend?

Thanks for your insight.  You make a great deal of sense.  Couldn't agree with you more about the PTB and its comfort.

Anything on the Barrie is a bit clunky so no surprise there.

I feel I can wear the Cadets casually or even semi formally with suit. Sure they probably aren't sleek enough to wear with a tux I think with a suit, they work fine.

Also once they break in and get the Cordovan folds, they will look less bulky too.
