Within a few minutes Kathy had my Barrie last size down and had my trying on shoes in every other last. We spent over an hour and a half trying shoe after shoe in style after style. I now know what I wear in every last. Props to Kathy who, quite unhurriedly, spent the entire time pushing me to try them all. In the end I rewarded myself with one of the shoes I have always wanted -- the Color 8 Shell Cordovan Chukka boot. I had the boots shipped to me and the arrived today --low and behold-- they still fit. Thanks, Kathy!

That about describes my feet as well.  What size did you end up determining was a good fit on the Barrie relative to your typical dress shoe size?

Might just take it upon myself to play The Reckoner if these posts continue to pop up so frequently.

Can anyone who owns both plaza and trubalance lasts compare the fit?

I wear a 10D in plaza and have a 9.5D in trubalance on its way. Does that sound about right?

Also maybe I should mention that the 10D is cordovan whilst the 9.5D will be chromexcel; for some reason I remember thinking that cordovan is a slightly larger fit than its chromexcel equivalent.

I'm worried sizing down 1/2 might still leave the boot too big.

Well this is an interesting question--and a long answer. I had always thought that I was a 9 or 9.5D. Kathy spent the first 10 minutes measuring my feet and told me, in no uncertain terms, that I am not a 9-anything. My forefoot is so wide that people have continually sold me larger shoes to help me get beyond that width. I have to credit SF member Fritzl who has steadfastly maintained that my fit was not good. Great knowledge there. Kathy said I am an 8.5E or, as in the Barrie, an 8E. Only a shoe geek can understand what this information meant to me. Now I have to rebuild my shoewardrobe.

This is a good question. Rule of thumb says that this is correct. However I have found that a more comfortable fit for me was going down a full size with the Trubalance last. I have always gone with a 9.5D with the Trubalance and Barrie lasts. By chance, I tried on a 9D on the Trubalance, and found that to be a perfect fit. The barrie last works differently for me. A 9D on that last does not work. I've stuck with a 9.5D there. (I am also a 10D on the Plaza last).

All that being said, everyone's foot is different so YMMV. I hope this didn't confuse your issue however perhaps try on a 9D as well and see if that works for you?

Interesting.  Does the ball of your foot match up with the widest forefront point on the Chukkas?

She just wanted to sell more shoes (3), I had someone put me as a DOUBLE E before just to sell me something.  I'm a regular D.
