The level of email responsiveness was well within expectations for a small company, and they were always pleasant with me. It was my first NRO order, so I can't speak for them in the past, but this was all in a good experience, and I would try them again.

On an unrelated note, I am tempted by the Leffot preorder tobacco chamois LWB's. Is it likely that 9E on Leydon Suede Chukkas == 8.5E on Barrie LWBs?

I recently dealt with NRO for the first time, and they were quite responsive with good customer service... Albeit the snuff suede PTB I bought won't arrive from Alden until some time in May...

I saw those and was extremely impressed. I disagree re: Plaza. I think whatever they are on is perfect. So many seller go with a wingtip design; I find this one far superior.

I've started to develop these small cracks on the upper my waxed calf LWBs.  They are 9 months old, have always been shoe tree'd, and I have used kiwi neutral wax on them maybe 1/2 dozen times.  I put some Meltonian leather balm on the crack, but it didn't seem to do much.  Any recommendations?

Amazing how random some customer experiences are. For instance, AoC tends to get a bad rap around here due to some of Adam's return and communication quirks. Yet, I've bought shoes from him since shortly after he opened, have had nothing but first rate service through today, and would highly recommend AoC to anyone. That said, I know my size and don't jerk him around.

I see he posted some pictures on the website from the early days which made me a little nostalgic. I bought my first pair of Aldens through him when I was fresh out of college and have owned a number of the special make-ups he did. Unfortunately, I let most of them go, so it's nice to see them again.

P.S. I think I paid $285 for that first pair, and I thought I was bat shit crazy!

Fantastic!  Thanks for sharing... it makes me wonder why I was buying Bass saddle shoes back then and not Aldens.....

For what it's worth, I'm an 11 in Marlow and 10.5 in Barrie

Forgot someone wanted a color comparison. Note that I have owned the LWB for about a year longer.

I've read that too much wax will cause cracking.  I would second cleaning and conditioning them with Reno and lay off the wax.  Waxing that often in six months is too frequent IMO.

Agreed. Check this link from the Shoe Snob.

Do you find one more comfortable than the other? Since they're quite similar in color are they interchangeable within your wardrobe, or do you use each specifically for different purposes?

Inspirational - it appears we're the same age. I have ways to go.

Purpose is the same (walking) but it just depends on what I am feeling that day. I do admit that I hold Alden more of a "collection" (i.e., having every color of LWB). If you are a minimalist, I would say just one of them is fine.

I, however, am not a minimalist. teacha.gif

Wasn't that you who had in the signature something like 'help me SF not to buy any shoes' mwink[1].gif

Okay, so I was going to apologize for using the word "purposes". Maybe I meant to say wardrobe stylings. Being politically correct one isn't to assume everybody can walk. With a gentle nudge from Alcibiades I pulled the trigger on some RL Marlow wingtips. Maybe the shell devil will rest for awhile. After seeing your collection I'm rededicating myself to minimalism.

What a gorgeous collection-truly stunning! I am a lawyer and I spend a fair amount of money on shoes, but I just can't fathom where people get the money for these types of collections? I would bet there is $15k worth of shoes on this rack. I greatly envy you, sir. Financial advice is always appreciated, as well!
