some will take concern with how a previous owners feet will have creased them, assuming it would be different. in addition, the insole very likely molded to the previous owners feet.

That being said, I bought a pair of shells off a forum member that were well broken in but still quite comfortable. no regrets for price paid smile.gif

Great way to save a few bucks and pick up a great pair of shoes

If you know the fit is your size, you could score a great deal. Should get 150$ under retail and no tax, about 13.00$ to ship.

I was sent a pair of clearly creased Alden boots and worried that it may allow the boots to wear my toes and cause irritation. Never happened and I received a 30% discount. Used a mac method with a clean wrench and set a new crease after two wears. Then removed all crease and waves with a deer bone and trees for pressure. Just made them mine.

I recently purchased a pair of shell boots I would estimate had been worn @ 10 to 12 times to be honest with you they felt no different than my brand new indy boots I got a couple weeks before . Just saying

Looks like I would only save about $80-$90 over new, maybe I will just wait until new ones are available in my size.

How would you suggest sizing on the Alden's Indy Boot. I wear a 7.5 or 8 in AE Fifth Avenues and an 8.5 in Meermin. Haven't really worn anything besides that, so I have nothing else to add. These are rough estimates, but my length is 25.4 cm and width is 10 cm

Are you saying you sized up from AE to Meermin between a half size and a whole size? You seem to be an outlier on the sizing rules if that were true. I thought the standard suggestion was to take your AE size and subtract a half to move to the Barrie or Trubalance lasts, which run a half size large. However, your information about your size adjustment to Meermin is puzzling.

Valuation should be about 30% off,  if just hardly used, since you can hold out for new at a major retailer and save 15 - 20% on sale at say Brooks Brothers and  + 5- 8 %

tax at check out. As always it depends on the rarity of the shoe and will you find your size and proper fit then. I popped on the plain toe cordovan on E-bay because the pics were legit and the fit was perfect, also a nice seller who was trying to get into a different pair as he tried to move past really poor salesmanship and service were he bought.

Most well maintained shell I have seen holds way higher re-sale value than 70%

Since we've been discussing shoe trees as of late: How much does it matter if I use AE or alden shoe trees? When sizing if one is an 8d but said shoe/boot is on the Barrie should one use a larger tree? I wear an 8.5d in other lasts.

Alden trees are made by Woodlore, which is an Allen Edmonds brand. The only difference is the name plate.

There can be quite a variance in sizing depending on the individual.  I, for example, take anything from a 10.5D, 11C, 11.5B, or 11.5C depending on the vendor, last etc.  Factor in the difference between heel to toe and heel to arch shoe measurements as well as improperly fitted shoes that are "close enough" and you can easily end up in a large variance in terms of shoe sizes.
