Hi All, I'm new to Alden and these are my first shells (also my very first post!).  I'm looking forward to breaking them in with the Mac method.  Thank you all for your informative posts!  Left to right - Cigar PTB from Alden NYC, Ravello LWB from Alden DC, and Color 8 LHS from Sherman Brothers.

Welcome.  Hope you know what you're getting in for. Say goodbye to saving money...

Great collection to start off with.  Really starting with a bang, aren't you?  Congrats.

Thanks for the feedback, Patrick. Your good review might just cause me to go for a pair, as I've been on the fence although I've really only heard good things about them.

out of interest (not bidding on them), would buying something second hand like this that has been resoled with a half sole prevent the buyer from an Alden Factory recraft.

what kind of things prevent a factory recraft?

I use full toe AE or JAB trees on my Aberdeen tassels and Van LHS. Never had any issues .....

This was using size M full toe trees on a 8.5B/D unlined LHS so perhaps I should have used a size S but I never had any trouble using size M split toe trees on other pairs of LHS. I have used full toe trees for barrie lasted LWB and PTB wth no problem.

Probably depends on the size.  I put the M Full toes in my 9C LHS.  The Woodlore Ultra Shoe Trees (which are split toe) in M barely fit in my 9D Tassels.  Never actually tried putting the Full Toes in my tassels, but just imagined that it wouldn't be a good fit due to the narrow toe box.

I'm curious... confused.gif

It was Rancourt. In fairness though the conversation was in regards to unlined shell. I did not ask the rational but they strongly suggested it. I went with a pair if the trees they have and the fit is great

What is it with shoes and watches?

So funny you said this....my recent shoe habit has also been biting into my watch fund.
I'd be closer to my vintage IWC 666 blk dial/date by a few grand if I hadn't bought so many great shoes recently! As I'm typing this I'm ordering the Alden alpine calfskin boot from L.S. It's the first "reasonably priced" non-shell, non-mto shoe I've purchased in a while.

Arrived in mail today: Alden Whiskey lwb
Arriving in mail next week: 1967 Rolex 5513 submariner

It's a funny little addiction we got goin' on here.

I love that IWC Portuguese you have your eyes on. My puny, round 6.75" wrists just don't look right with those big 'guesers.
Good luck with your quest for that magnificent watch..

Bought a pair of Alden's and need help identifying the last from the numbers in the shoe.

They are partially suede PTBs on a flex-welt.  They look like these here:  http://leathersoulhawaii.com/2011/05/03/alden-shoes-unlined-suede-ptbs-lsw/  but I'm not sure they are on the Barrie last because they fit pretty true to size.

The numbers inside:

2L/2Y026    16

2993367

Thanks!

I've seen them say that on their website.  Not sure what their reasoning behind it is.

It's been a while since I've seen Uncle Mac post...

I saw a pair of shells on ebay and the seller claims they have only been worn a handful of times and the pics seem to verify that. Any downside regarding fit with pre owned alden shells?
