Thanks I think....

after years of longing after and months of reading this forum I am now the owner of a pair of alden chromexcel indy's and the j crew cap toe cordovan no 8. Thank you all for the information I have gathered here and the opinion on these fantastic shoes... Now if they could just stop being so fantastic so my bank account can take a breather.

Next the arduous task of sifting thru the posts to find proper care instructions on caring for the cordovan (clearly a lot of opinions). Unless anyone wants to send this newb a link or tip.

Thank you all again for this beautiful and strange addiction!

Ok, enough tears!!! They're causing water welts on my Cigar LWBs and I can't afford another pair, no matter what the price!

Love the color on these!  No signs of the olive hue like I've seen in other pictures.  How old are they?

nephew,

Vert well stated!

Here's one source I found for Uncle Mac's Method for shell cordovan care.

Essentially:
  1. Wipe with barely damp cloth.
  2. Brush vigorously with horse hair brush.
  3. Buff with smooth cloth.
  4. After a minimum of about 15 wearings, apply very small amounts of wax/cordovan creme/reno/... (depends on who you ask).

Of course use trees and a shoe horn as with any dress shoe.

Well I just wanted to add my new captoes to those posting new shoes. Also, I was helped by Kathy in at the Alden store in D.C. on these. Thanks, Kathy. These may become my favorites.
