Can I get some help with the tremont last? I'm an 8.5c brannock, 8d Barrie is fine on me, the 8.5d leydons I picked up are a bit tight but seem like they'll be fine with wear (thanks).

Looking at the chart that was posted a while back, it seems like I'd be an 8d in tremont, but Kathy in DC suggested 8.5d. What's everyone's experience with tremont?

Since you have a local Alden store, I would highly recommend going in and trying on a couple of tremonts to find out what size works best. I know Kathy has more sizing experience then all of us put together, but no advice can ever compare to having them on your own feet.

+1 on trying different styles on different lasts.

This is exactly what I did before purchasing the whiskey wingtips from Alden DC. Head to Alden Madison and try on a few color 8 or black balmoral wingtips. Make sure to try different widths as well.

Any experience with stretching out calf Aldens ?


I've got Unionmade officer shoe (PTB) in Leydon 6D and they are feeling small and painful after day-long wear (even after 30 or so days)

However, I also have the unlined suede chukka Leydon 6D and it feels good - maybe unlined suede is much more forgiving or it is lining that makes big difference?

Do you know if it would be possible to stretch them somehow ? Or better find the right pair of legs on b&s ?

I've got to agree that the C&J shortwings look really nice. There are so many other great looking shoes available, Church's, Edward Green, and C&J just to name a couple. But until I find a brand I can wear all day and then go out dancing at night in, like I've done with my PTB's, I'll stick with Alden. For me comfort is key.

I couldn't agree more.  My Marlows look great, but I would rather wear my 975s all day long; significantly more comfortable.

You can't go wrong with either the 403 or 405, but I personally feel the 405 is underrated. I have Leffot's version on commando soles, and it gets continued wear in the fall, winter and rainy spring. I recommend the commando sole on the Indy boots as it makes the boots lighter and more versatile
