I definitely didn't mean to be sarcastic Uncle. I was just pointing out that SFTG is very knowledgeable about Alden for BB, considering that he owns many of the Alden for BB shell offerings, and he tends to know the answer to any questions about them posted here. The "Ha" part was in response to his >100% confidence statement.

I would say don't give up hope, yet. My son sold a rare pair of Adidias on Ebay and the buyer tried to get out of it by saying that he had misidentified them. Ebay, quite suprisingly, took my son's side. If you can prove that the shoes were properly identified you may win. I agree with SFTG, get a statement from Alden or some other independent proof and then point out that you listed them as BB branded Alden shoes.

Thanks for the advice. I got such an email this morning from Alden. We'll see how it goes. In the future, for Alden for BB or C&J for RL, I'll probably put some sort of disclaimer that there's not branding of the manufacturer.

Just to be clear, I did not take it as sarcastic. If anything, a compliment.

actually, all (full strap in 8 is the factory version)

Understand the feeling. I ordered the Ravello chukka from TSM last Thursday and on Friday the status switched to new. Been checking the status 3 times a day since. Last night status switched to cancelled. I'm crushed......

Similarly, Ralph Lauren store associates told me that "We make our cordovan shoes in our own factories" several times when I was first learning about all of this stuff lol8[1].gif

A SA at the RL Store told me the Sanderson LWB in calf was made in their factories also.  I discovered shortly afterward that AE makes them.

Seven, how does the 974 (wintip bal oxford) compare to the BB version?  I think they are different lasts, but is the sizing the same?  I know the Tremont is somewhat nebulous in terms of sizing, but are they about the same?  Also, how about the shape of the last?  Thanks!

Currently in AE i have:

Shell Burgundy Dalton, Brown Malvern, Tan Amok, Grey McTavish, Black Westchester, Black Hale, Black Park Ave,

Tan RL Singleton, Blue Neumok, Red Neumok, Navy Sueded Players, Brown Patriot, Brown Fifth Ave, Dark Brown Williams,

Tan RL Sanderson, Bourbon Neumora, Walnut Grain Park Ave, Chili Lasalle, Tan Elgin, Walnut McAllister, Walnut Strand

So definitely need more shell I think

That's quite a collection cbt.  If you are trying to go with a model/style that you do not already have, I'd go with a color 8 cap toe boot (J Crew version or the 4060 - grant last) and maybe an NST in any of the shell colors (the LaSalle is similar but there is enough of a difference).  Most of them are available at TSM.

It looks as though you have several slip-on styles, cap toe shoes, and suede bluchers.  If you're looking for Alden versions of your favorite style of shoes, I'd suggest the tan suede LWB from Leffot, any of the shell colors in LHS or tassel mocs (I'm not a fan of the full strap but maybe you are), and the perforated cap toe in color 8 (Alden or BB versions).

However, if you ask me for my favorite Aldens, I would go with the LWB.  While you have two very nice LWBs in the dark brown Williams and tan Sanderson, I would recommend the Ravello, color 8, or Cigar (in that order).  They are different enough than the two you already have.  The color 8 would be the easiest to find.  There are Cigar LWBs out there (Alden Carmel, DC, San Francisco, and Madison-NYC).  the ravello will be harder to find but try calling Alden DC.

Good luck and post some pics when you acquire a pair or more as many of us do...

If you ask me however,

Several ravello models have popped up on this thread over the past few months

Ravello LWB from Alden SF, Alden DC and J Crew
Ravello Chukkas from Alden NYC and Shoe Mart
Ravello captoe boots from Unionmade Goods

Just continue to follow the thread and some ravello will pop up

I'm considering a couple of black captoe boot models

Alden DC - Grant, straight tip captoe, commando sole, speed hooks
Alden NYC - Grant, straight tip captoe, double leather sole, all eyelets

I want the boot to be as versatile as possible... My question is do any of you wear your commando soled boots with sleeker lasts (grant, plaza, etc) with suits? I'd like to be able to wear this boot with a suit occasionally.
