Great looking LWB's!

Well, the Alden bug has officially taken hold of me. Thanks to you guys and your awesome pictures and advice, I could no longer contain myself to lurking status and have instead been beset by one of the worst shopping sprees I can remember going on, the fruits of which I've decided to post about.

 

My apologies for the crappy iPhone pics, but I got a patient cancellation and am thinking about Aldens instead of doing progress notes. Here is yesterday's booty, the Color 8 975s sent by CitiShoes. The Indy's came the same day and are the Ultimate Indy's from LeatherSoul Beverly Hills (I'm loving the Commando soles!). I'm going with the Mac break-in procedure and am having fun researching shoe care products on the Hanger Project site.

 

I'll post more pics later, but in the midst of last Friday's snow storm, the UPS folks delivered J.Crew's brown CXL LWBs and the snuff suede LWBs. I feel like I want to change shoes between each patient I'm seeing...

 

I didn't understand it before the packages arrived, but I can now see how it feels like one can never have enough of these darn shoes!

 

Quick question: Has anyone used colored laces on their Indy's? I stopped by the mall today and picked up red Benjos laces, but can't tell if they should go back or not...

These are great looking! I keep almost pulling the trigger on these. I have the tan suede longwings so I can decide if they would overlap or not

Ha! That's funny: I have the same debate, but in reverse. I think I'd prefer to go with a totally different color next rather than something that's so similar. Color 8 probably, if I can find them. But I love the antique edge on color 8 LWBs so much that I might just wait for Leffot to pre-order them again, which could mean a wait of a year.

Anyway...

I had tan suede longwings and tan suede unlined dovers... I ended up selling the suede longwings (too much overlap with the suede PTB for the spring and summer) and ordering the natty CXL longwings from Leffot.

Any advice for someone wanting to begin purchasing some Alden?  I have 21 pair of Allen Edmonds and am looking to expand into some nicer offerings.

browse this thread and see what shoes strike your fancy. that's what began my fledgling alden obsession...page 1 of this thread. any major gaps in your AE collection (for example, are you missing full strap loafers or perhaps split toes)? how much shell do you have?

 

where you live also influences whether you can try on shoes in-store to get a feel for what size you are in the different alden lasts.

i heard alden dropped blackbird because they weren't paying their bills. i also know they ditched their store in the middle of the night recently because they were multiple months behind on their rent.

What's in your current collection? The answer to that will go a long way in allowing an objective assessment of what Aldens you have a need for (err ... a want for).
